Education please

Purchased new Alpine 3401 fifth wheel last Nov. It has been in storage since and I have forgotten a few things. The owners manual is very generic and not specific to Alpine Also the directions on the door of the valve compartment is not clear to me. What are the small red and blue valves with the pull-up stems? Are these low point valves to drain the lines? Also there are two water hose connections. Is The Lower to fill the tank and the upper to supply water directly from a supply source? The door instructions mention a gravity feed. What are they referring too? We are taking it out for our maiden trip this weekend. Thanks for any replies. Pappaw

Hi, and welcome to the group from Connecticut!

The Blue and Red valves are your low point drains for the hot and cold plumbing. They will drain quicker if you open your sink and shower faucets while draining.

A picture of your hose fittings would help, but I am betting that one is your fresh water hook up. The other, probably lower down is probably your black water rinse fitting. They should be marked.

Good Luck,

I sincerely hope you are taking your maiden voyage with a friend, a friend familiar with RV'ing. If you have never done this before the learning curve is steep and mistakes can be costly. Pictures always help with problem solving, there are so many variations with every make and model and creating pictures with words normally leads to confusion and inaccurate information.

Good luck and Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum from Southern MD. Enjoy your Alpine. FYI, there are 2 Alpine owner group pages on Facebook too.

Congrats on the unit. On my avalanche there are four places to insert a hose The bottom left is labeled city water and the top left is freeze guard. The city water goes in the bottom one and there’s a lever to select tank fill or normal flow. The only time you need to use the top left one is when wintering the unit. I also have two blank tank flush connections in the same box on the top right side.

I don’t know if you have figured it out yet. If I remember correctly (my rigs not here right now) on my Alpine there are only 2 water hookups. 1 is for everything except black tank flush. The other is for the black flush.

Ditto. My Alpine has fresh water hook up and black tank rinse. The tank fill is just an open fitting to fill your fresh water tank and may or may not have a cover.
