Hello Readers
I've been lurking for a week or two while deciding on the new trailer purchase.
Taking delivery on the trailer this week, a 2018 Passport GT 2810BH. It's my first brand new trailer. We've been doing our outings for the past 3 years with a second-hand 2007 26' Gulf Stream Innsbruck TT and had a lot of good experiences with it. Through a series of circumstances last year we ended up doing a grandparent (we're mid-50's age) adoption of a toddler and with two other grand kids nearby, I decided it was time for a trailer upgrade for length and bunks. Our baby girl is still a youngster at 14 months but among her earliest memories will be our camping trips round' abouts Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. That's important to me. We're four-day weekend types generally, tend to state park campgrounds off-season within a short day drive, but here in Arkansas we have a plethora of nice places to visit. It's not called the Natural State for no reason. We also manage a multi-week vacation trip now and then as far as Albuquerque, a mix of state parks and commercial campgrounds, casino parking lots and Walmart overnights in the transit. That's small mountains, lakes and desert, just missing the ocean, but I've seen enough enough ocean to last a while. Navy veteran of 21 years, 14 of those deployed on ships. I'm sure a visit to the Gulf coast is somewhere in the future though.
I'm towing with a 2017 Silverado 2500HD with the Duromax diesel engine and a Pro Series 1000k WDH & anti-sway bar. I'm sure this truck is way overkill for a 5290 lb trailer (dry), but I'll not be repeating the white knuckle experience of pulling with an underpowered vehicle with the payload maxed out through thunderstorms & winds of the midwest plains. Never again. And I still have some room to grow if I decide to go heavier in the future.
Anyway, I'm happy to find the pool of information. I've picked up on a ton of ideas to keep me busy during the home months.
