Low Clearance Warnings

Is there an app that will provide low clearance warnings? Best one?

New units are 13'6"; the same as OTR truck. My last was only 12'6" so I need something to prevent an expensive haircut.

Suggest you do a search on low clearance as there have been several informative threads. I purchased a Garmin RV GPS which helped me feel more comfortable about the trips. I still try to drive very alert though.

There might even be a temporary low clearance situation that an RV GPS may not identify. My biggest worry is canopies over gas stations and trees in parks and boondocking sites. We include the vertical in our scan and the wifey is often the outside marshaller when things look tight.

You might look st the Smart RV app. It has a free trial each day a certain time.

I have found the app from ALLSTAYS called "Truck and Travel" does a fantastic job. It lists low clearance bridges, truck stops, rest areas and more.

I have the paid version so the free version may not have all the same fetures.

Is the App you refer to called Truck Stops and Travel Plazas?

I use the Garmin RV 770 LMT-S seams to work good and a lot better than the one built into the truck you can put in all you measurements and you can create a trip with stops and add favorites.

Yes that's the one. If you search your app store for ALLSTAYS you should find it.

I use the Garmin RV 660 and it seems to work as advertised. I verified it on a couple local spots with low clearance and or weight limitation and it warned me and would not route me that way. That said, in unfamiliar territory I am still extremely watchful of local signs and warnings. My worst spot is just getting out of my neighborhood because of all the low tree branches. Safe travels.

Good Sam Trip Planner has a menu item to identify several warning categories, low clearance included.

Yea, it's the tree branches that seem to get me, not the low clearance overpasses..

This is a warning to anyone with a Garmin 660 or 770 GPS. These machines are extremely unreliable in some locations and Garmin doesn't seem to know where those locations are. I have tried both and returned both after several near misses. DO NOT TRUST these devices.

The various Garmin RV GPS do a good job tho have seen where the truck version may be better but that one doesn't have RV apps like campgrounds. I use the Garmin RV760 and like it. Regardless, there is no GPS or other device that's 100%. Several local low bridges and overpasses aren't on any so awareness is always the safest bet along with that GPS. I set my Garmin at 13'6" as our 5er is 13'4" now, instead of the shipped 12'9"
