Cougar326RDS

Newbie here,
DW and I are looking at buying a new 2016 Cougar 326RDS 5er looking for any pros and cons on this unit. What hitch do you recommend for this unit. TV is a 2013 F250 CC 4x4 6,7 diesel 6'9" bed. We are leaving FR selling a 2016 Apex 269RBSS bumper pull to move to Keystone.
Thanks for any help. RG88

First of all, welcome to the forum, we're glad to have you join us.

Now, to answer your question about the 326RDS. The dry weight of the pin is 1840 pounds. That's without any batteries, cargo in the basement, tools or camping equipment such as lawn chairs, patio mat, grill, coolers, tools etc. You'll probably find that the pin weight will be closer to a figure between 2200 and 2800 pounds, depending on how you load your trailer and whether you have any water (going in the fresh tank returning in the waste water tanks).

Now, your F250 Superduty weighs about 7800 pounds with a full tank of fuel. With the 10,000 GVW, that gives you about 2200 pounds of capacity for all your cargo, passengers, trailer hitch (about 100-200 pounds) and the pin weight of the trailer. As you can see, the numbers will add up to more than your truck's "yellow sticker maximum"...

That said, there are some who will argue that the F250 is really a "paperworked F350" and you'll be OK. There are others who will say, "Go ahead, I do it all the time." and there are those who will say, "Your truck isn't rated to tow that much weight, you're setting yourself up for a potential nightmare if anything happens and you get into an accident and get sued."

From a "will it tow that much trailer?" perspective, the answer is, certainly it'll do just fine. Its' not the weight you're "pulling" rather the weight you're "carrying".

Only you can make the conscious decision whether to tow over your truck's maximum weight ratings, so you've got some "thinking to do"....

Again, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum from Kansas City, MO! Enjoy your new rig. JRTJH has given you some sage advice. Best scenario is when you hook up and make your first trip, you'll know. Be flexible and have a plan if the experience is not what you want.

We bought the same model a few months ago and absolutely love it. We have about 10 nights in it so far, and we haven't found anything that we don't like about it. We upgraded from a travel trailer, and I can tell you that towing the 5th wheel has been great so far. I think that you will find your truck to be more than up to the task. Feel free to ask any questions about the trailer that you might have.

Thanks to everyone for your help full comments. We look forward to meeting new camping friends in the Keystone family. dkd04231 did you get the second AC unit when you bought your new 5er? Did you change tires to G rated ones?

dkd04231. What hitch did you go with? Do you have a short bed Dodge?

We did not get the second AC, but it may be something we end up adding. We decided to try a summer without it first and see if we need it, I'm guessing that we very well may, but we'll see. We went with the Reese 16K slider hitch. I do have a short bed, but haven't needed to use the slider yet. I'm very happy with this hitch. I've stuck with the stock tires so far. They are more than adequate for the weight of this 5th wheel, with weight to spare. Feel free to ask any questions that you have. If you want to talk about it, feel free to private message and we can exchange numbers.

Hey guys... I finally have my new 326RDS out of storage... During my de winterization, I noticed I have water draining to the cap of the sewer drain. I have diagnosised it to the kitchen sink. I cannot find the valve for that line. Can you tell me where that valve is located??

We just purchased this model and love it, we have the two airs and the bike rack on the back. As far as your truck, hell yea a F250 will work, I have a 2016 F250 /6.7 motor and added Super Springs to the rear, a anderson ultimate hitch/B&W turnover ball. Weighed in at 20, 080 pounds that included 2/3 tank of water. Only negative is the satelite prep, satelite hook-up in the basement being on the wrong side, and we corrected the air flow void issues plus replaced the ceiling air flow vents. Next on the bucket list is replacing sound system. Floorplan is awsome.

Brad, you are not too far off...

I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 with the gas engine... I weighed in at 19,400* completely loaded with 2 adults, 2 kids, and a dog. *truck full of fuel and trailer full of water.

We are taking it out this weekend for the first time... pretty excited.

Sorry for the delay in replying. If you haven't found the valve yet, it's located under the far left side of the kitchen slide.
