Tires

I’ve read in here guys thinking of going from 235/80/16 to a 235/85/16. Has anyone actually done it? Looking to do it to my Cougar 336bhs. Thanks

Aside from the issue raised in the other post with less distance between the two tires, I would also consider the space between the underside of the trailer as well as proximity to any outriggers or j-wrap. What is your reason for wanting to change tire size?

I’m wanting to go to a higher load rating (F). I’ve tried multiple brands of tires, and I keep having issues with bubbles in sidewalls.

There is the Sailun S637 tires, available in both the 80 and 85 sizes and are G range tires. They can be run at less than the maximum 110 psi if your wheels are not rated that high.

I think you will find it is the brand of tire rather than the load range. If you keep the load range that was specified on your tire placard and use good tires, they won't bulge. What brand did you use previously that had bulges on the sidewalls?

At 12,290# GVWR you don’t need F rated tires! Our 2005 Sprinter Copper Canyon with a 12,360# came from the factory with LT235/85-16 E tires. We replaced them with Yokohama YK-HTX LT235/85-16E and could not be happier!
Yes, they have a lower weight rating than their ST same size, but I trust these tires far more than any ST tire for the trailer GVWR!
