Water Heater Cycles Before Lighting
Hey ya'll! We have a 2018 Hideout 202 LHS with a Suburban water heater that is propane only. This past weekend, while trying to light, the heater would cycle 3 times and then need reset. Each time it would try to light it would light the propane but not stay lit. After 3 or 4 tries it would stay lit. Is this a problem or is it normal? Thanks.

It is a problem. It should light and stay lit.
Does it do this every time, or maybe once? If it does it every time there is an issue. If it did it once there may be a simple reason such as air in the lines.

Just a guess, but sounds like you have a thermistor going bad. Does your stove work correctly? When you open your LP bottle, open it slowly and open all the way to the stop. This will help to keep your regulator from freezing up
The thermistor is a small bi-metal piece that permanently sticks into your pilot light, as part of a safety circuit. It sense heat from the flame if the pilot lights. If it doesn't sense the heat, it automatically turns off your gas supply.
Check to make sure it didn't get bent, and is in the pilot flame. Try holding a match to it for a few seconds, next time you light it.
A 2018 may still be under warranty. You may want to check. If not, it's a pretty easy fix.
Good Luck,

It did it both days we were out. Sometimes light on the third try and sometimes had to recycle (4th try). Stove lights right away. Fridge was on electric. Propane bottle open slowly until fully on. I will got try the match test and check the thermistor.

Water heater doesn’t have a traditional “thermistor” like the refer as there isn’t a pilot light.
Water heater uses the sparker as a flame sensor, take it out. Clean with WD40. It works for us most of the time. If it doesn’t, then replace it. If it still persists then the board is bad.

Super smooth emery paper or sand paper around 1500 grit works well. Old HVAC trick is using a dollar bill which is actually rough enough to polish it righ up.

Nice tip Chuckster!
I would not have thought of that but will now store that thought away in my "When this happens to me" file.

Your Suburban water heater should have a two year warranty, so you might be able to get this fixed with a repair person under warranty.
