Stress Cracks in Cap

Our 2021 Cougar 29RLS has developed about 5 stress cracks in the gel coat of the front cap. I brought it in to the dealer to fix 2 spots that I saw around the front cap window seal and when they took a closer look they discovered 3 more.

They say it's not uncommon and it's only cosmetic, but has anyone else had this problem? I guess I won't be too surprised if I develop more in the future.

This is one of those situations where a "photo is worth a thousand words"...

Stress cracks: Where around the window? How deep? How long?

They may be cosmetic, they may be structural, or identify an underlying structural problem that also needs to be corrected.

Stress cracks can be caused by the trailer frame moving, from a broken section of the frame or from something as simple as a screw that was overtightened...

To understand more about your problem and what caused it/how to repair it, a lot more information would be needed.

I’m thinking the dealership doesn’t really want to address the problem and is just saying that to avoid doing any real work. If they have any other trailers on the lot have a look at them and see if it’s as common as they say.

Actually they are repairing them, so I'm happy about that part.

As to where they are and how long, I can't really take a picture. They're at the bottom left and top right of the rubber window gasket. They're very difficult to see, and a picture really wouldn't come out. The trailer is at the dealer's getting repaired, so hopefully they'll be taken care of soon.

That’s good to hear. Sounds like you have a good dealer.
