Crimped propane line!

Beware! If you have a slide out with an outside kitchen/burner check the propane line. When the slide out goes in and out your propane line may be crimping and develop a leak! We relocated the quick coupler to the main body of the trailer and extended the propane hose from the burner to reach the new location.

We are having a similar issue with a crimped gas line to fridge. Works with slide out; then shut down when slide came in. Searching for problem we discovered the gas line was quite crimped when slide was in; and of course did not really un-crimp once slide was out. It seems to be a manufacturing defect...
Husband has worked on it so it is working for now; but our 2020 Keystone Cougar will be in the shop as soon as we can get it there! Cannot believe this issue was not noticed on the assembly line.

I've seen this on other brands also. They don't fire off the appliances at the factory, and Im willing to bet the pressure test it done with the slides out. When we PDI a unit, again the slides are out to access the appliances so that issue doesn't really show until a customer take it and the refer is warm or showing failure after driving with it on. Easy fix is to re route the hose and use zip ties.

Same problem on our trailer, the service managers exact words to the tech were "another Laredo with a kinked propane line."

I have attached a couple of photos. Slide fully extended, and almost closed. Its not just the propane line, the 120 and 12 volt lines were also being pinched between the slide and frame. The "fix" was to remove the cable ties and replace them with fewer ties, one of the new ones is in the spot where the lines were kinking.

Hmmmm, I notice all those lines just sort of bundle up then extend when the slide extends/retracts. Looks like a kink waiting to happen. Wonder if you could put one of those flexguard kits on there like mine has that keeps them together and collapses them left to right? Mine have not kinked or been an issue except when the flexguard broke on the last trailer. Was an easy replacement. Comes in sizes to carry 2-3 -? cables hoses etc.

Thank you. We will be looking into a number of suggestions. Glad we caught the crimped gas line before it broke.

An option for your slide cables and propane hose might be adding a power chain. A power chain (one of many industry terms for this item) is a flexible plastic cable/hose holder that folds in one direction but does not allow for crimping. The chain assembly consists of two end pieces that anchor the chain and chain pieces that snap to one another. Each chain piece is actually two pieces; a trough piece that looks like a U and a cover piece that connects across the opening of the U to retain whatever is being run in the chain. The length of the individual chain links (trough) determines the minimum radius of the bend. Our Sprinter has this chain on the galley slide and the 120VAC, 12VDC and propane hose are all laid into it.

Thank you. We are taking our camper to dealer for a fix. Your suggestion might be a solution can mention to them.

Likely a soft rubber hose would not break from bending. That said I would be asking a lot of questions on the “Fix”. You might be better off taking to a propane dealers service department to see what they would suggest.
