I got to admit I took off the WD bars and anti sway when I got off the highway onto gravel and dirt roads to the hunting camp. Mainly to have alittle more clearnece and speeds were up to 20 or so, mainly slower.

Our dealership has turned down big sales. One guy had a lifted truck and didn’t want to put it back to stock height to tow a 40’ toy hauler. Said he would pay for us to install a 4” lift on the trailer....yeah right! Then there was the guy that said no WD/sway. We showed him the hitch rating, and GVWR. Said no, signed a waiver and off he went. Was back in 20 minutes, white as a ghost.
One of many reasons I’m back at my present employer is how they do business.

I have posted on here before that at CW in Ocala, Florida, their sales manager actually walked out to our new truck to see if it was a 350, that I wasn't handing him a line. He said if it wasn't an appropriate vehicle then we didn't have a sale.

Another positive vote for the lowly RV salesman.We are looking to upgrade/downgrade? to a GD Imagine. The salesman asked for details on the TV, i.e. truck size/model/year, gvwr, payload, etc. I was impressed.

They are nice units! I can tell you first hand they come from the factory with very few if any issues.

Last September I saw a family towing a Rockwood Signature 8327SS (TT, dry weight of 8781 lbs, with 2394 carrying capacity) with a 1/2 ton Ram. They were using a WDH, but there were 2 adults + 2 teenagers in the truck, with quite a lot of camping gear. I made sure to wait until well after they had gotten on the road to leave the campground myself....

At 4400# GVWR, our little trailer is light enough to not "require" WDH but even that needs a sway bar to take the wiggle out. Anything much heavier would require WDH just to keep the class III receiver from being torn off with the max 600# hitch weight. We might be able to move up to a 6200# GVWR trailer with WDH but that's about it since we are limited by the 3.08 axle ratio on the truck. When I tell some people that I wouldn't pull too much more that that with our half ton, they look at me like I'm from outer space.

My salesman checked to make sure my truck was up to the task - that being said, I made sure I had bought a truck that was. Who knows what they would have said if I showed up in a Canyon haha
A Curt WDH was included no charge with my trailer, they installed it and everything during my PDI. Is that not the norm? They did go with pretty much the minimal hitch possible though, a 1000 max tongue weight model, my trailer has a tongue weight of 865 on the spec sheet, so possibly heavier in real world (scale is on the way from Amazon now for me to verify and gather some real data).
As a complete aside, been shopping for the next trailer since I brought the first one home I really like either Keystone Outback or Grand Design Reflection. Do the GDs really live up to the "hype" around their build quality and lack of issues out of the gate vs other brands?

If you check the truck manual it will tell you you need a weight distribution hitch to pull a certain weight trailer. If you don’t have one “NO INSURANCE COVERAGE”.

You probably need to do a little internet surfing to check them out. I've seen several complaints about them along with one or two showing up in the complaint section of Trailer Life if I recall. Also talked to a couple of owners with issues. From the things I've seen and heard it sounded like they are about like all the rest. Have you walked through the Reflection? I've walked through one as well as an Imagine - they didn't look all that spiffy to me (it may have been my preconception of what they would be). As has been said many times, I think it's probably floorplan, floorplan, floorplan - then the rest of it.

Towed our 197 Jayco slide many, many miles with no WDH/sway bar. Big time different story with our Cougar 21RBS. I see lots of TV/TT combos that must sway something awful, especially the mid-size pickups and SUV's. Of course, they all claim, "I didn't even know it was there". Yeah, right. Our neighbour was towing an approx. 30 ft. TT slide with some kind of Volkswagen SUV. Might have had all the horsepower he needed, but you couldn't convince me it was a very well matched outfit. I see he has a much smaller Jayco of some sort with a slide that comes out the back end.

1/2 ton? Well he!!s Bells boy, don't you know what that thing can haul? The space shuttle, a locomotive with 100 coal cars attached, a 4'X8'x10' tall granite boulder, a D8 dozer on a flat bed, and if your in Alaska you can yank an 18 wheeler fuel truck fully loaded out of the snow bank! At least that's what all the commercials show. They wouldn't lie to us right?

Flyboy, we (state of Oregon DOT) use 1 ton pickups as helps/assist vehicles and many have moved the 80,000 lb 18 wheelers on/off a roadway during a crash or break down. They also replace transmissions and the fleet alot faster then we would be pulling a RV.
Bottom line is, moving a big heavy object with a pickup can be done. Can it be done at more than at a crash scene or for a tv commercial ? Legally no and not safe.
