Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

I am in the process of purchasing an Alpine 3401RS and requested that the dealer install (at their recommendation) the stack-able Splendede W/D. The compartment for the W/D is too shallow at the top for the units to go back far enough to close the doors. My dealer is working with Alpine to make the compartment larger but I am viewing this attempt with some trepidation.
I contacted the Keystone product manager ( her description) and have never been treated as rudely by anyone. She said that Alpine makes their product to accept a W/D and if they do not fit then I purchased the wrong ones. I ask what she would recommend and she said that Alpine cannot recommend an after market product. I ask if she was aware of any W/D ever being installed in the 3401RS and she said no. I ask if I could speak with someone else and she responded, "I am the manager and no one else will tell you anything different".
We love the 3401RS but I am hesitant to complete the purchase due to the total lack of consideration that I received from Keystone.
Has anyone else had a problem with Keystone customer service?

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

I'd let the dealer try to resolve this. They should be able to tell you the dimensions they were supposed to build to. Good luck.

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

I received a call from the dealer today. Alpine shipped some materials to them over night and the Alpine Rep looked at the w/d closet and confirmed the problem. The dealer is going to rebuild the compartment so that it is deeper. The Alpine Rep said that Alpine will be making a kit available to elevate this issue in the future.
I expect to pick the unit up on Friday I just hope they surprise me and do a good job.

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

I do not have any experience with your model Alpine, but will offer some observations regarding some of the variety of floorplan "accommodations" for a washer/dryer. First, not all RV's are created equal. Some have a space on each side of the front closet, left for washer, right for dryer. Some have space for a "stacking unit" in a slide or in a cupboard, sometimes adjacent to the front slide, sometimes in the kitchen area and sometimes in the hallway (usually in rear bedroom floorplans). Almost always, the kitchen and rear bedroom models have enough headroom for a stacking washer/dryer. Seldom have I seen enough room for stacking pairs in a slide and very often, as in the case of the Cougar and Montana floorplans with the washer and dryer on opposite ends of the front closet, there isn't enough room to stack them, even if you wanted. There's barely enough headroom to open the washer, especially with a shelf in the closet above the appliance.

It's been my observation that many floorplans won't accommodate a stacking pair, the factory never intended them to "fit the space" and the design criteria was to install a "single combo unit" such as the Splendide unit.

While I'm not sure, I'd make a "SWAG" and say that your floorplan wasn't designed to house a stacking pair. It could be that your dealership "sold you a promise" that they simply can't keep ?????

As I said, I've got no experience with your Alpine floorplan, but with the variety of models and floorplans available from the long list of fifth wheel manufacturers, not all that say "standard washer/dryer connections" means that any type you might choose will fit. You might want to look at other Alpines and see if any of them are constructed to accommodate a stacking pair. My guess is that they aren't (meaning your model)

If you look at the Keystone website and compare Alpine floorplans, you'll see that your model has a "narrower closet" and lists "washer/dryer prep" while the 3510RE (as an example) has a "walk in closet" and lists "stackable washer/dryer prep". http://www.keystonerv.com/alpine/ That would indicate to me that there are two different "front closet/washer/dryer" arrangements and yours is the smaller of the two, probably not designed for a "stackable pair".

ADDED: I see you posted a response about your dealer getting parts shipped to remake your front closet while I was typing my response. Hopefully they will be able to accommodate your desires. I don't know if the front cap, front floor and the shape of the front area are the same in the two different "closet plans". If they are, your dealer should be able to redo it, but if the floor is higher, the roofline slopes more or the window/cabinetry is too close to the front cap, they may have problems and not be able to finish the job. Good Luck !!!!!

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

Thanks for the response. I see what you observed on the floor plans.
I also see on the floor plan of the 3401 that the W/D compartment extends past the front of the closet which it does not do in the actual model. Had it been as the floor plan shows there would not be an issue.
I will comment further after I see what my dealer and Alpine has done.

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

I just found this in the description of the 3401RS

The front private bedroom provides a comfortable place to relax and rest up for the next days adventure. There is a king bed slide with storage underneath, a chest and TV opposite the bed, and a front master closet with sliding doors, plus stackable washer and dryer prepped closet, and so much more!

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

Curiosity got to me, so I looked up your floorplan "image" from the Keystone website. I does show the W/D hook up area is extended out several inches. Do you remember if your actual Alpine W/D area extends out as in this image?

Our Alpine in completely flush across the front of the closet. I just measured in the W/D hook-up area and it is exactly 27 inches, floor measurement back to front. This begs the question of the depth of your same closet area?

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

The actual W/D compartment in our unit was flush. I received photos of the modified compartment last night and it is as the floor plan diagram.
We pick the unit up today and I will post photos after I have a chance to inspect the workmanship.

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

We took delivery of our new 2017 Alpine 3401RS today. The dealer and Alpine did a fantastic job of rebuilding the W/D compartment.

The 3401RS is one of the Alpines that we're looking at. Was the issue confirmed to be a manufacturing error and the W/D area should have always been extended?

Once you've had time to get to know all of the systems I like to ask some questions. We have no dealers anywhere close that has them.

The one thing we don't like is the theater seating and would rather have the two recliners as some of the others do. The slide looked to be the same size so I would hope it could be optioned out that way.

Re: Alpine 3401RS and W/D installation issue

The dealer told me that the Alpine rep said that Alpine was going to supply a kit to expand the W/D compartment on a as needed basis.
Our unit has recliners, not theater seating.
Feel free to as any questions.

Interesting.

When one order and they know they'll need the kit I would hope Keystone would do it at the factory.

Hum, it shows the T seating online but you must be able to change it. This is great since we'll take one of the recliners out and put in a glider/rocker for the DS.

BTW, does the frame under the bed slide or is it fixed and just the platform slides, I'm thinking about adding between 5 and 10 KW of LiFePO4 Lithium plus solar and if I do I want to keep the batteries inside for better tempature control. Under the bed would be a good location since it almost directly above the basement where the inverter is located. However it depends on just how deep the storage area under the bed is. I'd like 18" but could get by with less.

The bed does slide. Dimensions under bed are:39" back to front, 48" wide and 12.5" deep

Thanks, that lets me know just how large a battery will fit.
