Fort Clinch State park, NE Fla.

Has any one stayed at this park?

Looking at river sites or beach sites...don't know which to book.

Also, any site recommendations or sites to avoid??

We have a 32 ft fifth wheel........

Thanks,

Jo

We stayed at the beach at site 5 or 6 in December. All sites are about the same. You could see the water from 11 (if I remember correctly) through the dunes. No shade anywhere but in December that was okay. There is a boardwalk to the beach between 8 & 9. Lots of bike trails. The beach site was not real pet friendly - lack of space and lots of sandspurs everywhere. Bath house was old but VERY clean. The long, long pier is next to the jetties just down the beach from the boardwalk but the water is shallow except at the very end. We did not catch any fish but some people did. Remember- Florida now requires a license to fish from the shore or pier in salt water.

Haven't stayed at the river sites in 15 years and didn't recognize it. All redone and a new bathhouse. Lots of big trees and shade but a lot of really tight sites so be careful.

The fort is worth the visit but I enjoyed it more as a teenager. Then again my father said the same thing.

All in all Fort Clinch is a great place to visit. Fernandina has an old section that you may enjoy. Fernandina's beach is pet friendly.

I understand there is now a ferry from Fernandina to St. Mary's GA. That might be an adventure.

We will go back.

Thanks for the info.

We booked site 6 *sites 9-14 were gone already*

and since we'll be there 11/29 and 11/30 we're hoping it
will be cooler weather.

Since we live in Ft. Lauderdale area, beach was NOT our
biggest concern but didn't want the river sites as I had heard
they had some tight spots and low trees.

Looking forward to going to the fort, the pier and thanks for
the info about the Ferry to St. Mary's - we might just do that!
