If you are looking one week out I'd suggest looking at http://www.campgroundreviews.com/ and start making phone calls as they tend to fill up quickly. We camp in that are a lot but we stay a little further away. Some of our favorites are Starlite (request plateau sites) they have fantastic view of the valley as they are about 800' high. Also love Red Run along a river, quite cg with Amish horse and buggy traffic close to cg. Many other good ones Old Mill and Mill Stream are owned by same owner are nice and closer to town. I would stay away from Pinch Pond as it was mainly seasonals that looked rough a few years ago when we were there. Hope this helps.

Country Acres is a nice campground. I caution it is Country Acres not Country Haven (New Holland KOA). Acres is real nice, Haven is run down and has a camp Nazi that owns/manages it.

Drummer Boy is great if you want the Gettysburg area. Lots to see and do too!

Good Luck,

Another for the Gettysburg area. We have stayed at both Gettysburg CG (https://www.yelp.com/biz/gettysburg-...und-gettysburg) and Granite Hill (http://www.granitehillcampingresort.com/). Both were fine though some sites can be tight at Gettysburg CG. There are several others nearby. While I often like a KOA for convenience, the one near G'burg seems to be quite overpriced

The Griz, while you're in the Lancaster area if you need any groceries I would suggest Stauffers of Kissel Hill www.skh.com Great stuff, lots of local produce and meats and reasonably priced. They are across from the Lancaster Airport on Lititz Pike.

RE: PA Dutch Country

Country Acres is a very nice campground but does fill up quickly. We stayed there once a couple of years ago and have been trying to make reservations again, but it sounds like reservations need to be made 1 year in advance. That is how popular that park is.
Flybouy: We have reservations for Pinch Pond over Labor day weekend, hopefully the campground is cleaned up now. We'll find out. Starlite is on our list of campgrounds to check out as well, but probably not until 2019 at this point.

I hope Pinch Pond has cleaned up, it's been years since we were there. The PA Renaissance Festival is very close by at New Hope Winery. The winery has plays and wine tasting that can be fun. At the Renaissance grounds there is a tavern with great sandwiches and food that was open even during the off season. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks folks for all the feedback and suggestions. Unfortunately the WX has not been cooperating here. We can't seem to get two days without rain. So we had to forego our pre-Memorial Day trip. My DW works for a Gymnastics Camp here in the Poconos, and now starts their busy season. So any camping will be long weekends.

Will certainly keep all the recommendations in mind though as we will get to Lancaster sometime this summer.

Regards,
Mike

KOA in Elizabeth

We stayed there last labor day.

Great facilities, clean and a great site.

Only a 15 or 20 min drive to Hershey or Lancaster.

I agree. Country Haven has a great view of the valley, but the "Camp Nazi" is oppressive and ruins the experience. Stay with Country Acres. NIce place, close to everything.

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. Could you cite an instance or two that triggered your "Camp Nazi" criticism?

Regards,
Mike

I can tell you the "Camp Nazi" yelled, literally you could hear him yelling 3 sites away, at someone for moving the fire ring. They will kick you out if you raise a puff of dust with your tires and say your speeding. Very unfriendly. Only stayed there once when Spring Gulch (across the road) was full and would never return. They have a swingset for kids, that's it. Virtually no activities for kids. They used to have a sign at the entrance that read "The quiet camp ground"
For a great view try Starlite CG. Fantastic view, family owned and extremely friendly.
