Morning surprise

Cool, I'll start with this, we went to one of our favorite places to camp. Darlington, WI is at the center of the Tricounty trails. We routinely head over there an run the trails all day with our golf carts.
A couple weeks back, we got there on Thursday and had a great time. Friday some friends met us and we went for a ride, came back to the camper, started a fire had a great time. Over night, it rained 6.5 inches in 4 hours we were about 50 yards from the Pecatonica river. About 4:30 am I woke up and looked out the window to see this,

After a brief moment of panic and waking up my wife from a dead sleep to tell her we need to pack up and move, she told me she had already been up and it was not the river but just a low spot that we were in at the campground.

This is what it looked like when it finally got lighter outside,

Needless to say, we moved anyway and I needed a nap

Congratulations on being the first to be moved here. You have just won a free lifetime membership to this forum.

I hope the rest of your day was better and I hope you were not planning to cook breakfast on that campfire.

Who had the honor of unplugging the trailer? I'd be scrambling to find an insulated stick to flip the breaker.

6.5 inches is right about what we got for the whole previous rainy season. No wonder your campground is so green. I'd still be in a panic.

How did the rest of your trip go?

Nice site, pay extra for water front? Had a site a little like that once before, not too fun.

Yep, that one took some thought. I ended up just pretending it was a bandaid.
The rest of the trip went well. We moved to higher ground and got a great story and pictures.

Had a camp site like that at Bristol Tennessee one year at the spring race. Only it was the entire campground.

A few years back four of us were on motorcycles with tow behind campers on them. We were in New York state and were in a campground that had a creek running through it. It started raining that evening pretty heavy so we inquired about the rising of the creek. We were told that creek hasn't risin in 27 years you'll be fine. Woke up at 5 AM stepped out of bed and had water up over my ankles. Went outside to get the others up. Two along side me were in the same predicament. The other guy chose to stay closer to the creek. He could have literally swam away from his unit. It was up over his tires. We witnessed the first time in 27 years the creek rising. We did get a reimbursement of our night stay. We still laugh about it when we talk our stories.

From my view point as a woman, I love your wife's reaction to the situation.
I know my DH would panic too (happened to us at a small local campground with a small creek running through it- which became a large creek).

She probably rolled over and went back to sleep. I know I did- the rain receded within a few hours-
Living in Oregon where it rains all the time (OK- most of the time) means bringing muck boots and small rubber duckies to play in the ponds with!
Happy camping!!

I had been "overserved" the night before, so when I woke up it was because the thunder had gotten loud enough to wake the dead. She had already been up a couple times and securing some of the items that she did not want to float away.
I always tell everyone that I married up. But my poor wife ended up with me

A few years ago we were winter camping and it wasn't too cold. Got up in the morning and let the dog out the ground was white. He jumped out because thats what springers do and yelped. I turned the light on to realize we had nearly 3 feet of the white stuff and he was springing up to see where he was at.

So, I decided to ditch work and head out for a cartless weekend with the chick and the hauler,

Found a great spot, small campground that's also a horse farm so the chick can play with the horse's while I relax and catch up on some reading and such.

Naturally, we got her about 5pm yesterday, had a fire last night, and then it started raining now looks like it will rain the rest of the weekend.

We have yet to camp with this camper in dry weather.............
