217exp Battery Box Upgrade

Hey all!
New to the forum. I'm looking to upgrade my battery box. My problem is, the front of the camper has a sloped front to it. Any battery box upgrade I am looking at all have straight sides. I was thinking along the lines of a pickup truck bed toolbox kinda thing. Anyone do this before?
Thanks!

It's your rv, you are only limited by your imagination, ingenuity & wallet thickness.
If boondocking frequently I'd make room for 2 or 4 6 volt golf cart batteries wired in series, that would get you your 10 days I'd imagine.

I am gonna to a 6 volt conversion but I have to wait on the battery box that I want, Measure out the clearance you have before making any purchases. For starters I am gonna get the 2 6volts and 2 new plastic boxes and wire them up in series. The final product will have this

with an automatic trickle charger and its own battery cut off switch.
it will fit with about 1/2 inch clearance on my application.

Thanks mike. Yeah, that’s the battery setup I’m going to do. Finding a box is tough. The shape and space doesn’t make it easy. I may just fabricate one. Quick question.... I see a lot of people putting on a trickle charger. Isn’t the one built into the camper sufficient?
Have a great day

Yes it is if you have electric available where you store.

I am not sure of your setup, but I replaced 2 X group 24 12 volt batteries with 2 X GC2 and purchased this box to put them in.

It fit perfectly in the tray where the existing batteries were.

There's an old saying, "Different strokes for different folks" so I suppose that also applies to battery boxes and they make all types to keep most people happy.... That said, I've always been extremely reluctant to use a metal battery box with wet cell batteries. The acid has a way of getting next to the metal and corroding the box, no matter how hard you try to keep it clean and painted.

NOCO and Century Plastics both make plastic boxes that are "doggone near as theft proof" and significantly more resistant to corrosion, not to mention what dropping a sway bar or WD bar on a metal box will do to the looks.

If it were me (easy to spend your money, eh?) I'd look at some of the non-metal options and see if they might give you the same security, better damage resistance and I already know they are significantly cheaper than any metal battery box.
