5th wheel hitch in a 5.8 box

Has anyone installed a non slider 5th wheel hitch in a G.M. 5.8 box?

what kind of problems do you have? I assume you have to very careful

with the cab / fiver interference?

Perry,

I'd suggest that you check your truck's Owners Manual first - towing a 5th wheel may not be recommended.
There were (at least for 2006, as an example) some *Foot Notes* on the 5.8 ft box configurations.

Note: "Fifth-wheel or goose neck trailering is neither designed nor intended for this vehicle."

Of course, I don't know that this applies to all model year's, I simply remembered reading it in our 2006 GM manual.
If 5th wheel towing isn't an issue, and given the length of the truck bed, you might also want/need to replace the pin
box with a Sidewinder (or similar) so that you can make tight turns. Just some food for thought.......

I don't see how you're going to get away with a non-sliding hitch. You MIGHT be okay with an autoslider like the SuperGlide.

I have a non-sliding fifth wheel hitch in my 5'7" bed and can make 90 degree turns with no problem. Here is how:

The Reese Sidewinder pin box can replace your pin box or can be ordered as an option with some Jayco or other brands as the Revolution. There is also the Sidewinder Airborne that softens the ride much like the MorRyde pin box.

I use a Reese Sidewinder and have had no problems at all. I think the contoured front cap on the trailer helps as well. I used to say that I would have nothing but a Sidewinder on any subsequent trailer I owned until my buddy got a Reese "air ride" or "air cushioned" goose neck. Do some research, several videos and posts (this forum and others).

I use a 5th Airborne Sidewinder and am very happy with it. No problems turning, backing or generally travelling down the road.
