We had slide awnings on our Alpine, and had no problems between the awning and slide awning. However, we did order ours as a factory option.
I will say, in the north Texas and Oklahoma wind, the slide awnings did "pop". I got the inflatable awning tubes (aka, Air Wedge), but actually a swimming pool air raft would do, to put under the awnings. I would then throw a thick nylon rope (found in garage) with loops at each end over the awning and connect the loops with a bungee cord. The kept the awning tubes in place and gently held the awning down. If good weather was predicted, didn't bother with all that.
