I pull with a Chevrolet 2500 HD shortbed also with a pulrite superglide ,the superglide makes the tight turns easier and allows me to have a short box truck, nothing against the long beds my father in law pulls his fiver with one but I needed a shorter overall truck since I also do snow removal in the winter. It still allows for a extra fuel tank in the back and some storage. Good luck on the search there are many options out there in brands and sizing keep in mind the payload #'s for what you end up choosing since many times your next trailer most likely will be heaver than what you are looking at now.

I pull with a 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD with the Duramax. It has a 6.5 ft box which now they consider them standard beds. I declined to go long bed because it's a pain to drive daily especially a quad cab long bed. I was going to buy a Reese Sidewinder but I'm able to go 88 degrees without touching the cab. Mine is overkill because my trailer is only 8,000 lbs dry and I bought a truck that can tow 18,000 lbs. Rather be safe then sorry. Plus, I plan on upgrading to a toy hauler after a couple years.

i have never owned a short bed truck and no plans to ever own one. Most times, you are only talking 24" max in the length difference in the long bed verses short bed and the various cabs.

Can 24" length difference make it harder to park? Sure. So can a raised 4x4. I like the extra bed space. I have a large tool box in the front of mine. Tool box is 72.5 x 21 x 24 deep. I still have room to put a Champion 4kw generator in front of the in bed Ford/Reese 25k 5th wheel hitch. That leaves room behind and on sides of the hitch for other items.

I would not go with a 3/4 ton truck either. The difference in price you think you are saving will probably cost you in more mods than you save to haul a decent size/weight 5th wheel trailer.

So, I had rather have a bit of a pain to park (i do park in middle of nowhere with my new truck to avoid shopping carts and wayward doors as people get out of the vehicles) and it be useful than later bitching about what I should have bought. Go big or stay home is my thoughts.

I also have room for the generator between the tool box and the hitch. I used to put the gen in front of the hitch on my 2500 standard bed as well, but didn't have the tool box. The long bed is nice for hauling plywood/lumber as others have mentioned.

I also park in BFE, but do that with every vehicle for the same reasons listed (shopping carts/door dings), so the parking issues some talk about I don't notice.

Long bed all the way. Once you have one you will realize what you have been missing

I've had one. A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 quad cab dually. That thing rode like a tank.

What do I tow with? Nothing!! (crying)

We sold our last camper and boat when we ordered our new fifth wheel and before buying the dually. Now we are waiting until around March to get our camper, so I haven't got to tow anything with this beast. Cant wait!! Lol

My 2002 2500 short bed road like a tank as well compared to my 2011 3500 crew cab dually. Actually, it road like a tank compared to my 2011 2500 CC. The suspensions in 2002 were so much different than todays trucks.

I love myF350 with CC & LB except when I try to eat some place with a smaller lot as I'm 55 feet long connected and the turning radius is big. So a little planning always is superior.
I have a 35 gallon fuel tank/tool box, a small Champion Generator. Propane bottle and gas grill all forward of the hitch. Behind the hitch is two tool boxes (one permanent mount), small step and some misc when pulling. When unhitched, the area behind the hitch is clear and all is under cover of the roll-up tonneau cover.
I'm a Dually fan for safety (if I blow a rear tire) and stability in driving on the edge of being over loaded. Now my combined GWR can be over 28,000#.
Yes, I can't park at the front door when shopping but this is just part of my daily exercise.

What to pull with

My opinion, I prefer to not have a long bed. Reason being is that I drive the truck daily, and the 6 3/4 is much better to drive while not pulling our 29' Copper Canyon 5th wheel. The sidewinder is the best thing since sliced bread, and we can turn our 2015 F250 Lariat FX4 6.7 Power Stroke on a dime. Just my thoughts. I have been told I should've got the F350, but I am fine with the 250, she'll pull this RV with ease.

I tow a 2014 Alpine 3010RE with a 2015 3500HD Duramax LTZ package, standard bed SRW with airbags and a B&W hitch. It's my third Duramax, the others were 2500HDs. It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. It rides stiffer than a Suburban, but is just as comfortable. The exhaust brake aligned with the cruise control is fantastic. You would not be sorry for buying the same.

I'm definitely learning about parking issues with my new truck. I went to my daughters cheer competition at NRG Center in Houston this weekend and I parked way away at the very end of the parking lot like I always do. They had cones separating the parking lot and street. I went to back out and quickly realized my truck took up the entire lane between the two rows of cars and there wasn't enough room to get out. I just moved the cones so no issue but learned a valuable lesson. I knew parking would be an issue but I was more worried about the width then the length before, now I can see both are an issue with a long bed dually.

Those of you with DRW trucks, do you normally just take up two spaces? I hate to do that but don't want someone parked 2 inches from my door either. That seems to be what I usually see around here as duallys are pretty common.

You know what's crazy. My 2005 2500HD I thought had a great ride. I bought this newer 2012 3500HD dually and thought it would have a rougher ride. I was surprised to find it was actually a smoother ride! Lol I wasn't expecting that.

My Ram Dually will fit in between the lines with both rear tires touching the lines but not over the lines. I don't have a problem with it but have been driving big trucks since I was 16 years old. Some parking lots the spaces are short and I have to hang over the front line a bit but it seems to fit between the lines fine.

I tow with an F-250 CC short bed. Have no turning issues. The trailer has an extended pin box. I actually have more turning clearance than I expected.
