Predator 3500 Inverter Generator Extended run kit

Has anyone been successful at using an extended fuel tank on this generator. I have been working on this project for a couple of months with no success. I am using a generator fuel cap purchased from MRI- Denver and I have been talking with MRI and Harbor Freight and I think I know where the problem is at. If anyone can help PLEASE TO THIS POST ASAP! I have a cross country trip planned the end of May '19 and would like to discuss this issue with someone.
