Reese Goosebox

How many of you are running it?
Did your dealer and Keystone tell you that the warranty would not be voided?

I think that the Goosebox on the extended pin of a HC Montana would be the solution that I am looking for: more room in the truck bed for carrying my generator in front of it and two not having to remove a heavy hitch every time I needed to haul something

Thanks

From what I have heard, the Reese goose box is the only one approved by lippert for their frames to retain the factory warranty.

We have installed a few, and I can say I am impressed.

Thanks. I guess I need to know if the frame on the Montana HC 305RL or 293RK is either a Lippert #1621 or #1716 Wing Set as these are the one's mentioned as it being approved for.

Thanks

This saves me several hundred pounds of weight, frees up bed space, and gives me a flat bed when empty.

The goosebox is actually fairly heavy. It weighs a little less than the fifth wheel pin box and hitch together, but saying it will save several hundred pounds is stretching it. If I was to make an educated guess, I'd say your going to lose about 50 pounds.

For me to use a fifth wheel hitch in my truck, I first have to use a Kurt X5 or Pullrite Super Rail adapter and then a hitch on top of that. The Kurt weighs 70 lbs by itself. I save 70 lbs there plus the weight of the hitch. A Kurt Q20 weighs 140 lbs. This is 210 lbs.
Since I would have replaced the standard pin box with a Air Ride pin box anyway I don't see that the Goosebox would be any heavier than an Air Ride box. What do you think?

Thanks

I have installed both, and the goose box is much heavier than the air ride. There is a significant greater amount of thick metal used in the construction of the goose box.

I'm not trying to start any type of argument, just wanted to make sure you understand the goose box is one HEAVY piece of equipment.

No problem. I am glad that it's heavier- that means that I don't have to worry about it breaking.

Thanks

You can find out on the side of your pin box if its 1621 or 1716. If I remember when I was looking for mine it was stamped or on a data tag. I run it and love it. My dealer approved it after I showed them the info on Reese's site about being approved for those frames.

Pretty sure it is 1621. I replaced the original with the 5th Airborne.

I replaced my king pin with a goosebox and it is heavy but with the help of the bed of my pickup I did install it by myself. I think the ride was/is better than with the 5th wheel hitch (as I used a B&W companion before). I waited a month before receiving it after my order was placed due to the high demand of them and I'd say it was well worth the wait and the almost 1K I spent on it.
If you have the 1716 wingset there is just an additional spacer set you have to buy. Mine was the 1621.

I have the BW turnover ball in my 2005 Chevy 2500HD crewcab with the regular (6 1/2') box. I'm using a non-slider Companion hitch to pull my 2010 Cougar 276RLS. The trailer has the cut in front cap and I have the Companion set at its rearmost position, so I can turn fairly sharp but I know I still have to be very careful. My question is, is the Goosebox the same length as the standard pin box (from the center of the ball) as the standard pin box or did they make it longer, which would give more clearance to the back of the cab?

No it's the same length to my knowledge. I have the exact truck you have 05 CCSB 2500hd. I have the Goosebox and a cut/angled front cap also. I've never had any problems turning it backing in to spots. Some camp ground we visit require me to turn well past 90* too. It does however come out of the pin box a touch steeper to make up for height lost by no hitch. That's also why the instructions say to bolt it up one set of holes lower then the previous pin box to start on height adjustments.

I've been pulling a gooseneck car hauler for years but this is my first 5th wheel and I've been wondering whether I'll be happier with the Companion hitch that I bought used for $400 or if I should sell it and go to the Goosebox. I'll probably stick with the Companion for awhile but it's really good to have some firsthand information, especially with the exact same truck. Thanks...

With my B&W I bought the 4'' offset ball from B&W to use with my goosebox and it gives me almost 85 degree turning, granted I have just right a longer box than the chevy's do since I have 6.9'' bed but it give me more room with the offset. I like not having to deal with taking the companion hitch in and out of my pickup bed as I use the bed of my pickup for other things, which is why I went with the turnover ball rather than a normal gooseneck hitch. The Goosebox is an expensive upgrade compared to king pin hitches but with taking off the old king pin box and getting rid of the 5vr hitch you do have some hitch weight for what it's worth...

If you don't already have an air suspension pin box, the Reese Goosebox kills two birds with one stone. You get air ride suspension and a Goosebox
