I80 for maybe 20 miles from Portage to 294 is crowded but not bad. Run 80 to 39 north. 1880 train in Hill City and look for the burnt Donkeys from the Custer Park fire walking around the park.

Wow, it has been years since I took the ferry, certainly more expensive than when I went.

Plus there wouldn't be any night of sleeping. The night schedule this year for 6/15-9/02 leaving Ludington was 8:45 pm arrival in Manitowoc at 11:45 pm
