A/C Maintenance

It's getting hot down here in Houston, we have a Keystone Bullet that we've owned for a year. I'm curious what kind of annual maintenance I need to do to the A/C. Other than keep my filter clean. I have not been up on my roof yet so I have no idea what's under that shroud. Thanks.

Under the shroud you will find cooling fins very similar to the ones on a home air conditioner. If they are partially exposed on the rear of the AC, they may get bent over time. The more distortion of the fins, the less effective they are. Get a fin comb at any auto parts store and gently straighten them out.

Also, the fins may become clogged with dirt and debris. I have used compressed air to blow them clean. Others may have different methods of cleaning them.

These RV A/C's will remove moisture from the interior of the trailer and then drip it out on the roof. You might see if you can locate the path of the water and clear it of dirt and debris.

Andrew, Howdy;

If you don't have a compressor you can flush out the fins with a garden hose. Let it sun dry, and give the fan shaft a drop of oil.
I use a sprayer and keep it moving Don't use the solid stream as that can bend the fins (not good). You'll also be able to track the drain path if you're so inclined.
Be careful when you go to remove the shroud (cover), as bees and mud daubers like to build thier homes in them.
