Dump valve handle broke off...

Third trip out on my 2010 bullet and the dump handle broke off... Apparently, it is a two piece rod that is threaded together where it protrudes through the covered underbelly. I had about a quarter inch of remaining rod showing that I was able to pull with a pair of pliers to get it dumped but now I have to find a replacement rod and handle. I can't seem to find the same handle/rod anywhere online that I can just screw back up on there. I have been searching around and have found an extension that I'm sure I can rig on there to get it working again. The broken rod that I have is about 6" long with handle and the extension will make it 18". I'm wondering if it will be too close to the ground by adding an additional 12" of length to it. Has anyone ran into this problem before? I could probably get a sleeve to slip over the rods and join them together and hold them in place with set screws. Any advice?

Camping World sells an aluminum handle and I believe you can also get the rod from them. I had a plastic handle that pulled out of the threads and used Loc-Tite to re-install it with the new metal one. Has held up since the repair ....touching wood. To take the stress off the handle, I now pull and push with one hand on the handle and one hand on the rod.

If it's like the pulls on the trailers that have basement pulls they are put together with 1/4" all thread. I broke mine at the joint. I just got a length of 1/4" all thread and threaded it into the 2 sleeves. I measured what I needed first. The sleeves are threaded all the way through.
I hope I explained that so you can understand what I mean.

Yeah. I may run to the hardware store and pick up some all thread, cut it to length and screw a handle on it. May be the cheaper route to go. I still have the male threaded end poking through the underbelly to attach to. Before ido that, I will check with camping world to see how much a replacement rod and handle will be. Thanks for the replies.

We had exactly the same thing happen on our 2013 Bullet the second time we dumped. I crawled underneath and dug out a wider hole in the underbelly so that we could get a grip on the stem with the pliers. We took it to CW in Midway. They didn't have the exact part, but they took what they had and improvised. It has worked well so far. We would like to get an extender though. lizzie

As much searching as I have done, I hadn't seen that. Thanks for the link. It would match the other one and look better.

Maybe it's a bullet thing... I might be better off getting a spare for when the black water handle breaks.

Just make sure that the knife valve is working properly before you go through the trouble of finding a replacement handle. I had a similar issue happen to me on a previously owned TT years ago. Replaced the handle only to find out the entire valve was shot!

Valterra sells them and they are easy enough to install, $15 part. I believe CW website has a DIY Video on how to change out the entire valve. Not too much involved installing it. This way you will be able to replace the O-rings(gaskets) and you have a new valve. Good Luck.

You can use something like this until it's repaired.

I did what superdog404 did and it works great. A lot more sturdy than the cheap aluminum rods

Yes. Internal (female), threads on one end and external (male), on the other.
