Bunks in a 238ML

We went and looked at our camper this weekend and noticed a sticker on the top bunk that said 150lbs max weight. That sticker wasn't on the one at the RV show, so I was pretty sad when I saw it. It definitely isn't a deal breaker but it defeats the purpose of getting the bunks. I'm not 150lbs nor are any of my buddies that I'll be taking on the occasional trip.

My guess is, from what I've read, that the bracing on the walls isn't strong enough. I've read about people reinforcing bunks with some plywood in key areas. Has anyone here with a 238ML reinforced the top bunk to make it capable of holding 200 - 250lbs?

I would call Keystone and ask about this. I removed all of stickers but seem to remember the top bunk noting a 300 lbs weight limit.

If it is now 150 lbs on the 2014's I would have to wonder what was removed to downgrade the weight limit.

Different bunks, different weights. Our bunk over the outside kitchen is a 300 lb limit but the fold up over the couch is a150 lb limit so they are all different.

I called customer service, and the nice lady I spoke with went and checked with the service department. She was told it should support "150 - 200 lbs" without any issue. I asked her if she could check on prior years, and she said they were all the same for the same model. I then asked if she could send me an engineering drawing of the structure and she told me no.

Oh well, I'll see what it looks like once I've had some time with it and see if I can fortify it somehow without making any major changes or damaging anything.

Bunk weight

We just bought a 2014 238ml and our sticker says 300lbs. I would assume they would all be the same. Since you didn't see that sticker at the show maybe they just plopped a random sticker on it?

Seriously? That is very weird. Can you send me a pic of your bunk and sticker? I need to figure out with Keystone if mine is correct or not.

Oh yeah, congrats!

Yeah, it seems to be hit or miss. The sticker on my 2014 says 150lbs. Maybe I'll get my fat a$$ up there (235ish) and see if I crash through. There are only a few screws that hold the plywood sheeting down, so I might lift that up and see what the structure looks like.

You see.......the guy installing the top bunk at the factory is issued two stickers. If he has enough screws in his apron pocket, he uses the 300# sticker.....If he runs short of screws, he puts on the 150# sticker???

Heh, on our bottom bunk, the wood panel that makes up the bottom of the bed, if that makes sense, isn't even screwed into place. It appears its only held into by 4 or 6 wood screws anyways and the fit is tight enough so I haven't replaced them. But the water heater, stowage for the plug cable and the rear storage is underneath there, so I figured I'd leave it....the first time I screw it back into place, something will happen and I'll need to get in there I am sure.

So far no issues with using it.
