Re: Emergency Escape Windows

I agree with John. I would be hesitant to put pins in the escape windows. I'm not sure how the clevis pin shown in the picture keeps the window closed. Some time ago, there was a thread about someone having an escape window blow off the trailer while traveling. The theory was that the latching bar had not been fully latched, and the window bounced open, allowing the wind to have its way. In the photo you posted, the pin will keep the window locking bar from passing completely through the window frame, but it would still be severely buffeted and possibly damaged by the wind. The fix suggested in that long ago thread was to simply wrap a velcro strip around the latching bar and its bracket. We did this on our Cougar. FWIW, as long as the bar is pressed fully into the the plastic latch, I can't imagine it coming loose. In fact, we have found that the latching bars are quite difficult to unlatch. JMHO.

My modification is not to keep the window from opening while driving, it is to keep a gust of wind from pulling the bar through the opening, if we have it open at our campsite. It will also make it a little more troublesome for someone to fully open the window and reach in to take something. I do understand that they could cut the screen and pull the pin themselves, but anything to hamper the activity, makes us feel just a little bit safer.

If it makes the DW feel better, it's priceless!

Why not just keep your hose in the back bumper?

Whoever designed that, (or the Rhinoflex hose) didn't talk to each other... Mine got stuck in the middle and I couldn't get it out without hitting it from the other side with a 1x4.

That storage will be getting some use

Because the inside of the steel bumper starts to rust the day it leaves the factory. Rust is just like 80 grit sandpaper on the thin plastic walls of your hose.
