Smile Excited but a bit overwhelmed

Hi all, we got our first RV. 2020 Springdale 202RD, pulled by 2018 F150.

We travel and camp with our 2 husky mixes (dogs).

My wife and I are very excited and very happy with a TT. But we are a bit overwhelmed with everything to learn.

Welcome! There's no substitute for experience and muscle memory. The wife and I almost had our first TT roll into a pit on our first trip, when we forgot to chock the wheels before unhitching. Hope your learning experiences involve less adrenaline!

Welcome, and congratulations on the new TT! It's completely natural to feel overwhelmed at this point. I'd suggest reading all of the appliance manuals and documentation that comes with your camper, and above all - ask questions! The folks on this forum are great, and will bend over backwards to help you.

Welcome Nembie-lol (we all were at one time!)
One of the furstvtrips we took at back in the day found us cutting through Sedona AZ on our way to Flagstaff....problem was I took a road that was meant for 1 vehicle at best and it started to down pour!
The wife was a pinch nervous....I'm not gonna lie I was slightly concerned-lol
It all turned out fine....chalk it up to experience and all those campfire stories exchanged over some adult beverages with friends! [emoji106]

Welcome and congrats with the new trailer.

My advice is to go slow and don't rush during your "set up" and "take down" routines. We had a "step by step" guide the we followed for the first season. After about 5 or 6 trips, we just "knew" what to do.

If you have questions, this group is here to help.

Happy trails.

Information overload is common with new owners. This forum and You Tube are your best friends.

Be glad you just got a trailer and not a 40 foot motorhome with 4 TVs, surround sound, satellite TV, heated floors, dishwasher, etc. I’m the lucky guy that gets to show you how it all works. I almost forgot, 3 roof ACs with heat pumps, and a washer and dryer.

Today I did a walkthrough with a customer that has never owned any RV, first purchase:

43 foot fifth wheel with 4 slides, residential refer, 5500W gen, 6 point auto level. 4 waste tanks and 2 TVs. I installed a washer and dryer, King pin 3600 pounds.

Congratulations on your new coach. I’m on my second year with a TT and still learning, still making mistakes. I had never owned an RV or towed anything. Don’t be afraid to ask questions on this forum, there’s a wealth of experience. The fine people here give sound advice without beating you up.

Congrats! We are there with you. We are TT owners starting our second year. Totally overwhelmed by the learning process. Check the forum and don't depend only on the RV owner's manual. For me RV manual was defined.....really vague! We have had to go to the manufacturers manuals at sites to read how one really fires up the different appliances...........especially the HW heater! And, we still refer to the "set up" "re-hooking" at/from destination. We did 5 trips last year. Hmmm.....muscle memory....my memory muscle is not what it use to be. I have to re-read a lot......at some point, my memory will come along! Have a great season! Eric

I agree about info overload. I had never owned a new TT and once I did I joined this forum. My luck ran good as THIS IS THE PLACE for good advice.
Another great place I found is a you-tube site called "Long, Long Honeymoon." LoLoHo for short.
A great couple and many great videos about TT camping.

Have fun and enjoy the camaraderie.

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the 1/2 Ton Towing Community. My wife and I bought our first RV in August of 2017 so we are by no means experienced or seasoned. I do not know if the forum allows this but I learned a tremendous amount from You Tube Channels, specifically 'Long Long Honeymoon' among many others. You will make mistakes and learn to recover from them and learn not to make them again. It is all part of the experience. You will also find the the RV community are some of the most friendly and helpful people on the planet. If you get on-site and are confused or need help, do not be afraid to ask your new neighbors.

Welcome and congrats. A TT is just like camping. Pretty low tech. The biggest challenge to overcome is towing, backing up etc. It doesn't take long to get comfortable. My best piece of advice would be to maintain your roof. Water is not your friend! Have fun!

I agree! It’s our first year too and our laminated checklist is most helpful 😁

Probably one of the best things we did was install a rear camera (wireless from eBay at ~$79 with a 7" color infared monitor in the truck included) and tie it to the lights (not the backup lights). That way whenever I had my lights on I could see behind me, whether backing into a site or just checking behind me. Kirk
