New Vinyl Plank Floor!

Well DW got tired of the cheap carpet and wanted something a bit easier to keep clean at the beach.
We found some nice vinyl plank flooring at HD, it is 4mm thick and is a click lock install.
The part I worried the most about was real easy. That was working. back into the kitchen.

This is what we used.

All the old flooring ripped out and all staples removed, ready to start.

Some things just work out! Just needed to trim grove off next plank at cabinet.

Kitchen filled in nicely!

Now looking for a nice piece of grey carpet for the slide out.

Needed to bring in slide about 6" to get the last pieces in place.

Used oak screen door trim from HD.

Oak trim

I ran the oak trim thru a table saw and took just the radius off one edge to sit flat on the floor.

Russ, that looks very nice! Was there any problem with the slide being able to completely retract over the new floor?

I agree and was wandering the same thing. This is something I would also like to do. When you came up to the slide were you able to tuck the planking under the slide without a big hassle or did you have to jack the slides up a little bit so it was easier to get underneath. I saw a video where a guy put a couple of bottle jacks outside and raised the slide a couple of inches so it was easier to work underneath.

I have not brought in the slide completely yet. I don't expect an issue as it rides on a nylon bar at the edge, the floor sits about 1/4" below the top of the bar.

The edge of the bar is not covered by the slide floor, only by the carpet flap. I just needed to fold back the carpet.

Russ,

Have you found an upholstery shop or carpet store that has the capability to sew the bias tape on the carpet edge? We looked at changing out the flooring in our Holiday Rambler and the problem we ran into was NOBODY wanted to sew the edge binding on the carpet. We finally gave up changing the floor because of that lack of a seamstress.

Did you put anything between the new flooring and the subfloor or does that style flooring not need a barrier between the planking and the subfloor

DW has found some 13' X 9' bound carpet area rugs, 13' is the width we need so we could just cut down. She has seen the color she likes, but on line so no real idea how plush.

States nothing between flooring and sub-floor.

Having put a major tear in my floor, this looks really nice.

How hard was it to get the old floor up? Just a case of cutting the edges and pulling it up?

I'm thinking it's that easy, but not sure.

We replaced the carpet in the big slide on our 2007 3075rl. After cutting the piece to fit with flap and curved corners, i took it to a carpet binder. Try The Carpetmill in Portland.

I did that and had problems,, did kitchen and slideout,, when I took carpet off slide out and put new floor there, discovered the slide needed that carpet that was folded under edge of slide out to protect the floor,, cause a lot of problems,, when bringing it in the last few inches it would rub kitchen floor ,, he would lay a strip of carpet down just before it got to that point then it would slide the carpet on New floor without scratching,, eventually traded that TH off

Nice job, I am a fan of that style and color of flooring. The Safeway stores around here put flooring like that in their produce area. That was when I realized how nice gray wood grain type flooring looked.

Yes, getting old carpet out was easy, there was Vinyl under it that took more trimming.
This week we did replace the floor registers, got tired of the standard stamped steel. New are heavier brushed nickle. So far seem to be holding up better, the one in the kitchen always got bent badly.

One note of caution. Our fiver came with vinyl flooring and we love it. So much better than carpet. When the unit came in it had digs in a spot in the kitchen where something had got under the slide and scraped the floor, and the dealer had to replace some of the planks. As a result they told us to always sweep the foor carfully before brining in the slides as just a small piece of gravel or something could cause damage. It was a good heads up. After two years we have managed not to repeat that blunder.

Vinyl Plank Floor upgrade problems with slide

Just installed vinyl plank flooring, looks great.
However the doubled over carpet strip I removed under the slide lip seems to have been keeping slide moving easily with little;e friction and possibly avoiding scratching new floor upon bringing slide in.
Looking for suggestions to keep from scratching new floor and make slide move easily again.

We removed one of the sofas in the L/R along with the theater seating and replaced with individual recliners. I removed the carpet under the sofa and installed vinyl plank flooring that is a perfect match to existing floor. I had to extend the slide to accommodate one recliner and I used nylon bumpers under the edge to protect the floor under the slide.
