293SBH Black Tanks Flush - Check Valve backwards

Short story... Last year was our first year in the RV/Trailer world and was not aware we had a black water flushing port until the very last camping trip. I connected the hose to it to flush and water would squirt out of the jacket and not enter the system. We took it to the dealer, complained and asked them to flush the system along with many other things.

This year thinking everything was fixed i tried to flush the system and same thing happened again. I called Keystone directly (who are awesome to deal with btw) and they are thinking the check-valve at the water jacket/port was installed backwards.

Does anyone know how to remove it?

Hutch, Howdy;

Sumtin' like this http://weecraft.com/image-detail.php?product=5&image=20 will do a very good job of removing it from the system...

Here is a picture of the anti-siphon valve and a block diagram of the entire system so you can get an idea of what you have. Usually it is located under the bathroom vanity. It will be way up behind the sink, almost touching the bottom of the countertop. There are two nylon fittings attached to the PEX pipe, the valve is screwed onto those fittings. If it is installed backwards, water won't flow through it, so "turning it around" may fix your problem. Remember that it is a "fragile plastic device" that has a long history of breaking and flooding the bathroom. Many have simply replaced it with a piece of "straight pipe with fittings" to completely eliminate the problem, others have found brass valves to adapt to the fittings and others have just stopped using the black tank flush system.

Whatever you do, remember that anytime you connect a hose to the current system you will risk flooding your bathroom. That valve is the "weakest link" ....

I think he's talking about a anti-backflow on the hose bib... not the B&B 571 atmospheric vacuum break..

Howdy All;

Just my own experience, the connection for the water inlet on mine
had no check-valve like the fresh water inlet. The only check-valve
was the one in the POC vacuum breaker/check-valve. After all, why
install a second ... wait a minute, ... it IS Keystone we're talking about
isn't it ... and mine was built on the Left Coast.
It's easy to check, pull the screen out of the inlet and look to see if there
is a shiny metal flat surface just behind where the screen was.

I found this on Amazon. I like that it is brass. Looks like others are doing the same thing with this valve and it is less than the plastic.

Here it is installed.

Replaced plastic couplers (1/2 inch) with brass also.

Tested - not a drop of water came out.

One less thing to worry about. Now on to the 1 million other things.
