Safe T Alert Malfunction?

Just bought this Springdale Mini months ago. Noticed lately that after it sits in the driveway a week the CO2/propane alarm flashes red/green and beeps every 30 seconds. Manual says "alarm malfunction", and the propane has been shut off the whole time. I wonder if it's because the battery has drained and low voltage causes the alarm. When plugged to house the problem stops and all is well until disconnected a few days and battery diminishes (I think). If this is a 'non-problem', it seems like it will shorten the alarm's life.
Should I simply disconnect the battery when not in use and not worry about it? Should I seek warranty service?
