The DVR option is a one time $40 fee. Because the Wally is a single tuner box, you can't watch one satellite channel while another one records. I think, if you have an OTA dongle that allows you to watch antenna channels through your Wally, you might be able to watch an OTA channel while the DVR records a satellite channel.

I bought a 2 TB EHD directly from Western Digital and it works great. The best thing about it is that you can pause shows or you can back them up while watching if you missed something. We have used the EHD to record shows while not otherwise watching TV and then watching them later. As has been mentioned, there is only one tuner so no watching and recording another channel.

I also bought a USB wifi adapter so that I can use the voice option on the remote. Once I started using it, got hooked. You need a SPECIFIC wifi adapter. I tried several including Netgear and they just don't work... only the specific one that Dish sells or the Netgear version. It is sold on eBay for about $20. The Netgear P/N is 179048. You can connect to a wifi in the camp ground or a hot spot on your phone.

Last thing I learned that might prove useful is that if you buy the Playmaker and the tripod it is made to fit on, the ROUND rubber feet in the package are what hold it on the tripod. The rubber feet/pads slip into slots and when you twist, they lock (not great but somewhat). I set my Playmaker on my slide when parked at home and have a clear view of the southern sky. I put a pass-through connector on the outside wall of my trailer near the component shelf on the inside and connect my Wally. If I am at a campsite where there are trees blocking, I use the tripod and bought a 75' length of RG-6. You are only supposed to go 50' but the extra 25' get me past branches sometimes. It takes the Wally a tad longer to set up and there is sometimes an error message that pops up VERY BRIEFLY when you change channels but disappears to fast it isn't readable because the RG-6 run is too long. I used this cable this weekend the the park we stayed at. I may get a 50' foot run as well. I have a very short run connecting the Wally inside the trailer to the pass-through connector.

OK... one more thing; if the Wally sits turned off for a few days, it can tell you that you need to get Dish customer support to re-activate it. I found that if you download the MyDish app for your phone, you can re-activate with your phone and don't need to call.

Must be the Wally has to be disconnected from power for that to happen. We're on a seasonal site and were gone for several weeks this summer while my wife was recovering from surgery and the Wally was still active. I leave the RV plugged in while we're gone.

It happened while my Wally was plugged into power several times; hasn't done it recently. When the trailer is at home, it is plugged into shore power and receiver is not unplugged. Not sure why.

If you want a roof mounted dish the King Tailgater Pro also gets both eastern and western satellites.

It depends on what kind of dish you have. Winegard makes a multi LNB dish that would support this, but it's expensive and requires a permanent roof mount. Some of the 'portable' dishes have connections for multiple receivers (my Pathway X2 does), but if they are single LNB (which most/all are), the 2 Wally's will be restricted to channels on the same satellite.

I am just doing research at the RV TV options right now, so far the satellite dish seems to be the best option. I just wish Dish could provide at least a 2 tuner option for mobile connections.

A two tuner solution requires a bigger dish with multiple LNBFs and would not be very portable. You can go this route but you would have to manually align your dish:

I thought maybe you could hook up 2 Wally's to 1 TV for the 2 tuner thing, but I'm not sure that would work.

It would, but subject to the limitations of the dish you are hooking them to, as I already explained in my previous post.

Ok, I was looking at the King Tailgater Pro which has 2 satellite connections. I would just have to run 2 cables to the receivers from the dish?

You would think if Dish can make a dome satellite dish that has 2 connections for 2 different receivers, they could make a mobile receiver with 2 tuners.

All of the portable dishes (including the one you're looking at) are single LNB, which means they can only "see" one satellite at a time, the dish needs to rotate slightly to see a different satellite. DISH Network's programming is spread across 3 satellites.

You could hook 2 Wally's to that kind of dish, but they would both be limited to the channels on the satellite that the dish is currently pointing at.

The only options for a multi LNB dish are a free standing dish on a tripod that you would have to manually position (see RoscoeV's post), or the roof mounted Winegard Trav'ler, which is about $1200.

I think the intended use is having 2 receivers connected but only using one of them at any given time, e.g. having a tv in the living room and the bedroom of your RV. Plus, if most of the channels you watch happen to be on the same satellite, you might be perfectly fine with the single satellite limitation.

My humble opinion, but mounting a dish on the roof limits where you can park and receive satellite tv. Not a great idea in our case as we do camp where there are trees that are intended to shade the 5ver in the summer. Better to use a dish that can sit on a tripod away from the camper where there is a view of the southern sky.

totally agree, this is one of multiple reasons we got the X2 instead of the Trav'ler.

If I had Dish at home I would just take a hopper in my RV. I used to do that with Directv but that was before HD. I have Spectrum cable at home because Dish and Directv are just too expensive. I have the gold package which has all the channels and premium channels, HBO MAX Showtime Starz and Encore plus Epix. I pay only 82.00 a month. Dish wants over 115.00 a month and does not have all the channels! I own a Tivo Roamio, 6 tuners and 4 TB of storage. I know the hopper has 16 tuners but 6 is enough for me.

I did look at the X2 but I think I want the option of having it mounted on the road and with the King quick disconnect mount and King Tailgater Pro I can have both the roof mount for the road and the portable for the trees. I am still considering the X2 though, I do like the bigger dish for the best signal strength. I could probably make the compromise for that. How do you like the X2?

Don't believe that the Tailgater Pro Premium I can be used with a Hopper. This link lists the receivers that it can hook up to. I think they may all be single tuner type.

I guess that is ok after you are camping. I used to have Directv SD with a dish on a tripod and it was very easy to find the satellites. I just took one of my DVR receivers from home. The receiver doesn't know where it is, we just watched the home locals. Those days are gone. I just don't know how the receiver would act if it got the signal.
