Ladder Storage

I bought one of those 7' folding ladders from Camping World and carried in the pass through storage compartment but it always seemed to fall to the bottom and was hard to get to. I added a 5" vinyl fence post with end caps painted black just behind the A frame. It blends right in with the trailer. The ladder weighs about 25lbs so I used 4, 5" L brackets bolted to the frame.

I had made a similar storage for the sewer hose at the rear of the trailer where I used 2, 5" L brackets.

I did the same but installed two tubes. One tube for the ladder and another tube for the sewer hose. One of my favorite modifications.

I also added a short length of rope to the top of one side of the ladder to make it easier to pull out of the tube.

Nice mods. Any chance you can post a picture of the mounting hardware up close? How did you deal with the propane line on the one side along the frame?

I formed L brackets that were mounted to the frame rails so they extend below the frame rails so the tubes clear the propane line.

I have one of these ladders too, I really like what you did.
I store my nasty hose in the rear bumper, putting one of these on for the hose seems to be a much better idea.

Did they have the black fence posts in stock? I asked at a local Lowes and they said they only had white.

I was unable to find them in black. Others paint the white posts black. I did not bother.

5" L brackets with 1/4" carriage bolts bolted to the frame of the trailer and into the vinyl post with 1 1/4" fender washers inside the tube

5" L Bracket I put them on opposite sides till they fit the post then marked and re-drilled the one bracket so the holes would line up.




This picture at the gas line you might be able to see how the post was notched out for the gas line.


I painted the white vinyl post with satin black. As far as I know they don't sell black

PS. If I had seen Slows mounting setup even though I was only mounting one post I would have stole his idea!

I use the bumper for main sewer hose but I need something for the extra one I carry just in case. Something for the ladder would free up some space up front. I really need to get to some CAT scales and get some actual weights. Where I live I can only weigh everything together or separately and they won't let disconnect on the scale.

You don't need to unhitch on the scale. All it takes is three weights, and can be done easily. First weight is with tow vehicle front axle on pad 1, rear axle on pad 2 and trailer axles on pad 3. This weight is done with the WD bars working. Then, if they will allow you, unload (disconnect) the WD bars, leaving them "hanging" and get the second weight. Then, tow off the scale, disconnect the trailer and return to the scale with the tow vehicle. Front axle on pad 1 and rear axle on pad 2.

This procedure will allow you to use math to get any and all the weights you'll need. You can determine the total weight of the trailer, the total weight of the tow vehicle, the "WD transfer" to the front axle and back to the trailer axle. The only weight you "can't confirm" is the tongue weight, but you can get very VERY close by subtracting the truck rear axle weight from the "WD hanging" weight. That result will be within a couple of pounds of the actual tongue weight.
