Installation of slide toppers
Has anyone installed slide toppers them selves? If so how hard and what brand? Any tips or pics would also be appreciated.

Since I'm a tech, I have installed lots, and I can tell you it's not difficult for the DIYer with the right tools and equipment.
They all come with detailed instructions including pics, so if you just take your time you'll be fine.

The kit comes with a length of awning rail. You screw it to the side of the trailer, and the fabric simply slides into the rail like an awning.

I wish I would have had them out on when I bought the rig and am considering adding them. Need three of them and imagine it wouldn't be cheap to have them installed at dealer

Is there one brand better than other? Or one you could recommend?

I don't have a favorite brand, and they are all basically the same. You can go big $$ and get "fabric" fabric, toppers with covers built in, and lots of other options. In the end, they are all built with the same materials.
Dometic and A&E have both been in the awning business for a long time so I would trust either one.

I am having my dealer install a new slide-out awning this week. My slide is about 7 ft. wide and 3 ft. deep. The total cost including installation is about $750. Don't know if that helps or not.

There are videos on www.youtube.com dealing with this. Seems very straightforward.

There's no way I'd install them on my new camper, our last one had them and once they wear a little they made so much noise flapping when the wind blew it drove us crazy.

That's the big negative that is holding me back. So far, tree debris hasn't been an issue, but a lot of what they provide makes sense.

I've had mine on for almost 5 years now. NEVER had a problem with them flapping. I would never own another trailer with slides without toppers on.

The roller tubes are tensioned on both ends with springs. If your topper is flapping, one of the springs may have broke. I've seen the springs weaken over time and you can add tension.
I have found toppers are one of those things that people either love or hate. I don't hate them, but I've been sweeping my roof since my first trailer that had a slide in 1997.

Just got home with my new slide topper. It was 85" x 30" wide. Cost of awning was $360, installation at dealer was $100. I'm happy with it. It was less than I was quoted, so that always makes me happy.

Next time you get a chance, could you post a pic with the slide out and the slide in? I want to add one at some point but I'll probably be doing so myself.
I've driven all around my storage lot and looked at every single similar keystone unit to mine and it seems no one has a topper installed. And there are a lot of units!!
