Landing gear sway
Just got our new Raptor 297se and are out camping and are experiencing a lot of movement in the front over the landing gear.
This is a lot more than our previous unit.
Is this common? Are the tri-pods for the hitch worth investing and would it help?
Any advise greatly appreciated!

I think most 5th wheel legs are similar- I added a steadyfast system to my cougar 325srx. Made a big improvement.

Most people with tripods would be happy to sell it to you if they could get most of their money back out of it. I don't have one, based on the recommendations of others who do. Almost all have said it helps, but so little that it's just not worth the investment. As stated, steadyfast or a comparable system is the best route to take.
There's one member who made his own "steadyfast" system by using pickup bed ratchet bars, the kind used to keep cargo from sliding around in the bed. Pretty ingenious system, but I don't know how well it would work on a heavy fifth wheel like yours. You can find his system by using the search feature.
One way to help reduce the sway is to use cribbing under your fifth wheel landing gear. The longer you extend the legs, the "wobblier" they will get. By putting a couple of feet of cribbing under them, you will notice a significant reduction in movement.

Sway Too
I am new to this forum, as we just brought home a 2013 Cougar 330RBK 5er. We upgraded from a our last 5er which was a 28' Yellowstone Capri to the new cougar which is 34'. We have been out twice and noticed much more sway in the front end compared to our previous 5er. All the things I am reading said to stay away form tripods. I bought wheel locks which have helped slightly, but more so on the main level. I am also looking into the SteadyFast system but am waiting until they make an adjustment to the system for cougars with the bike rack on the back. The steadyfast system has great review in this forum and seems to be the way to go.

I bought the steady fast for mine they work great, there are a few others that people have, jt strong arm, bal, and there are a few more. the reason I went with steady fast there easy to use and you only have 3 places to tighten instead of 6. They are all good so it just your preference and how much you want to spend.

I installed the Ultra Fab Eliminator that has six bars 4 front and 2 rear which may be good for a toy hauler. The kit came with enough hardware for any application, the install instructions were good and it made out trailer very solid

Thanks everyone I think i'll look into the steady fast.
Question: are they an easy install? Any drilling or such?
And will they work on any 5er?

Try going to the Steadyfast website to help you with some of your questions in addition to seeking input here on the forum.

You can also inquire to them with questions about your particular trailer. I did and, Paul, the owner called and we talked about my situation. I installed all my system in just a couple hours. You do have drill the frame to mount the brackets. Not a huge deal tho

On steady fast site you can look at install instruction. Was easy to install just some drill as said before.
