Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

Friday I took delivery of a Bullet 308BHS, love its layout and equipment. Discovered the screen doors do not latch. they are integrated with the hinges of the main doors. The outer doors fit snug. The screen doors close but do not latch, neither of them. The latch (right to left) is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch from engaging with the door frame. The latch cannot be adjust any more, unless holes drilled out more. I look at the three hinges, the screws do not look like they allow adjustment. Just talked to dealer, other Bullets on lot have same issue. I think Keystone is drilling them out to a template and there obviously is no quality control at the factory. Does anyone know of a magical adjustment I may be missing? I may have to take back to dealer for hinges to be redrilled and doors mounted. thx

Re: Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

I own the same trailer and my screens latch as they should. I did have to make adjustment to the latch that is secured to the main door as the screen would always separate from that main door. Do you have a picture to show how off it is?

One is 1/4 and one is 1/8. I saw a screw to allow the latch mechanism to slide over but it is over all the way.

Re: Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

Hi there,

Congrats on your Bullet firstly!

You don't mention what brand of door it is? It will either be made by Lippert, or possibly by Dexter? I have a Dexter, and had an issue also.

I found that the 'latch' striker (the part attached to the inside of the door frame) was not sitting high enough for the screen door to latch closed behind the striker. If it's the same as mine, the striker can actually be flexed upward (toward the outside of the trailer) by placing a small screwdriver behind it, which is what I did. I flexed it enough and held it while I inserted a very small piece of plastic (around 1/8" thick 1/2" long) behind it, so that the striker is pushed outwards and sat higher. PRESTO... FIXED!

Very quick easy mod... not sure if it helps. I'll try to take a picture next time I'm checking on the trailer (winterized and in storage now).

Re: Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

My son in laws didnt latch either after a year. I looked at the latch and even though it didn't appear like loosening the screws and sliding the latch would work, it did. Try it. Loosen both screws, it doesn't need to move much.

The latch is slotted for adjustment. If the tab still won't catch the plate on the jamb, you can "tweak" the screen door. Just change the "angle" of the center bend if the hinge, I've done it numerous times. Just make small adjustments.

Re: Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

My screen door only catches by 1/8 inch if I'm lucky. I cannot adjust the latch any further as the slots are maxed out.

I have heard (but haven't tried yet) that you can place an object such as a carpenters pencil between the hinges and the frame to "tweak" the door and allow it to catch better on the striker plate.

Re: Bullet Screen Door - Does not latch

You may just need to ream out the screw holes a little to get the latch to slide over a hair more. I'm almost to that point in my Bullet.
