Refrigerator drain hose

Had wasps crawl into the drain hose (Dometic refrigherator) and had to drag a small compressor inside and blow out all the little drowned bodies clogging the hose. Anyone come up with a way to keep bugs from getting into the hose?

Mine has a “ bug plug” ( for lack of a better term) in the end of it. It lets water drain but keeps the critters out.

Should have had the drain hose cap from the factory. I’m sure they are on Amazon or your nearest RV parts store. Less than 5 dollars.

Available at any RV Parts Store or any internet based RV supplier. Amazon has them as an add-on item. Price varies, last week they were $3 for two, this week, $7 for two. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ME4952...v_ov_lig_dp_it

If you go to most RV parts stores, they'll probably have to special order them (2 trips, one to order one to pick up) as most people have no clue the plug is even there, so when they lose it, they never replace it. There's no demand at most RV stores, so they don't stock them.

I knew there had to be a technical term for it, I was just using my South Georgia language.

I am also looking at the screens for the cover vents; want to take a look at mine again to be sure they fit. Also not sure why they sell "bug plugs" in two packs. Geesh, who has two refrigerator drain hoses? BTW: I have a 2002 5ver; I suspect that when it was sold, it may have had one but not now... 16 years and a lot can change!

DO NOT install screens on the refer access panels. It cuts down airflow up to 30% and if the refer has a warranty issue, if there is screens it will void the warranty.

Cheapo flea collars cut up per Dometic and Norcold.

Maybe a more appropriate question would be, "Why does Dometic sell one "bug plug" for $11.87 while Amazon sells them two for $7?"...

BTW, some Outback and Laredo travel trailers do have two refrigerators installed as "standard equipment". Yes, you can use one for dry storage and one for cold storage, then when you get ready to party, fill the "extra one" with beer for the guys.....

As another "ponder point" Why do they sell toilet paper in 4 packs when there's only a "one roll holder" on the bathroom wall or why do they sell motor oil in 4 quart containers when most cars need 5 quarts? Yes, there are some that sell "size appropriate" but many that use their marketing sizes to force buying more than you need.... Might be "greedy profit hungry manufacturers" or maybe it's " Thougtul savings by buying the spare you'll probably need later".... Hmmmmm

The flea collars likely won't bother the wasps that have made the back of the refrigerator their new home.

While you are at it .... I would replace the entire hose with clear vinyl hose of same id size. I am sure as soon as you start moving the old hose on an '02 trailer it will start to crumble. JM2˘, Hank ..... ask me how I know that.

I had a 2010 that I had to replace the hose on; was brittle brittle.... the hose on my trailer is in good shape so very likely has already been swapped at sometime fairly recent.

I had same problem but my hose just deteriorated. Mine did not have a cap on the end and exited out the refrigerator side vent. I ran an aluminum tube down and out the bottom of the camper. Capped the end with window screen and wire tie. Works great and very cheap.
