Replacing Shower Faucet - Tight access
Does anyone have experience or suggestions replacing the shower faucet? I took the plastic cover loose and broke the seal against the shower wall, but the cover only comes out less than an inch. I am afraid of taking the old faucet loose and not being able to get the new one attached. Is there a way to gain some slack in the supply lines? Any suggestions are most appreciated.

Mine pulled out slightly, but then "up" enough to gain access to the connections

PEX tubing is flexible (to an extent) and there is some freeplay in the tubing length. That said, if you have 4 or 5 inches of freeplay to work with, you're about where most RV's are in plumbing "flexibility"....
Any replacement faucet will either need to have the same orientation to the hot/cold connections or you'll have to buy and fit adapters to the new faucet. Space and that limited flexibility will limit your choices. Typically, faucets that fit the shower will be limited to the few with similar connections. Adapters are hard to fit into the wall space and make changing to a different style of faucet difficult. (not impossible, but difficult)...

My black tank rinse vacuum breaker plugged up and its located behind my shower valves and because my dealer did it under warranty I only saw it disconnected. I wondered the same thing about how do you have enough room to work on it. Eventually I want to replace my shower faucets also but so far its in the category of if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Unless you're working alone, then call the DW to get the fittings started and refrain from any "verbal assistance" until she's out of hearing range......

Our shower plumbing wall has a pocket door behind it, and then there is the pantry cabinet into the kitchen area. Access to the plumbing and or the air gap/back flow device would be through a hole cut into the back of the pantry cabinet, and when completed, either a new piece of plywood to cover the hole, or I've seen where they took the piece cut out and trimmed it with molding so it could be used to cover the hole. This is a photo of the air gap device, looking into the area where the pocket door is.

Yup, I have bear claws for hands myself, when we bought our wedding rings the jeweler's ring gauge only went to 15 and it wasn't large enough. Anyway when I'm working in a tight space I call the DW out. She's a petite retired nurse, nursing instructor and was a NICU (neonatal ICU) nurse, perfect! She can thread an iv into a the tiny veins of a premature baby so she can do that sort of thing(as long as I reminder her righty tighty lefty loosey)
One recommendation Vol traveler, I would tie some light string or monofilament to anything that I pull out of a confined space like that BEFORE disconnecting it. With my luck if I didn't it would disappear down the wall when released. YMMV

vol_travelers, Howdy;
I reckon I'm lucky, the access to mine is behind the TV in the entertainment
center. But only a rectangle of about 5" X 4". Agree wholeheartedly with
flybouy, finding something to secure the lines and their fittings is the wise
way to proceed. Also, don't button it all back up until after you've leak checked
the fittings.

Your luck is better than mine! And retrieving a PEX line from inside a wall with mechanical claw didn't work for me as the PEX was too slick, don't ask me how I know.

When I did mine last year I didn't have very much room to work. I mostly just wedged my hand in there and got the old one loose and the new one connected. Scraped the hand up a bit but got it done. It is a tight squeeze but it can be done.

I needed to replace the entire shower faucet assembly and found it on line, it was the exact replacement part and color. I was able to remove the old and install the new and even though it was tight, everything fit easily and there was enough "give" in the lines that it was a fairly easy replacement. I resealed it with caulking and all works great.

I replaced mine a few months back...I added brass fittings on the end of the PEX to get rid of the plastic ones....added two short braided water supply lines and a new shower faucet...now i have plenty of slack if I ever need to replace again....

I updated the shower faucet in my Hideout recently. It was extremely tight but I was able to get it done (eventually). Hand got a little scraped up, but I survived Upgraded the hose and shower head while I was at it.
Remember to caulk it back up when done. I used clear caulk and it looks real nice, compared to the yellowish snot stuff they used at the factory.
