Yellowstone in May

Any insights for a trip to Yellowstone national park in mid May? Hoping to stay at fishing bridge in the park.

Our very best trip to Yellowstone of all time was done during the second and third week of May. We were there about 4 to 5 days and it could not have been better the wildlife was simply everywhere.

We're heading to Yellowstone in May as well. Here's a sample of what's on our list:
Hayden Valley is close to Fishing Bridge and probably the best place to see wildlife due to the lush wetlands along the Yellowstone River. Don't miss Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone especially Artist's Point. For wolves and pronghorns I'd recommend Lamar Valley.
For elk the Albright Visitors center is the place! While there Mammoth Hot Springs is a must see.
The Geyser Basin is a given but in the evening stop by the Madison Information center. Elk and Bison can be seen grazing all along the Madison River.
An easy evening trip from Fishing Bridge is to drive up to Lake Butte Overlook. Some of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen were from Lake Butte.

Great info thanks. Fishing bridge is already full so we're in Madison dry camping for four days.

So snow and ice isn't a big concern that time of year?

I remember waking up on the 4th of July to ice on the puddles in West Yellowstone!

Mid May for the most part in YNP should not be an issue. Sometimes Dunraven Pass might have closures. We go twice a year for the last 15 years. May and early August.

If coming in from east entrance there most likely will still be snow on the ground in places.

Pic east entrance 2nd week May ... down a few more miles ground was clear

Snow is definite possibility in spring. Roughly 6800' at Madison CG so I'd plan on some "cool" weather
