Talking Almost did it today

I bought my Copper Canyon in 2012 from the dealership I currently work at. Never been real happy with the A/C performance from day 1. I did all the things I could and it did improve marginally. Our last outing was NOT that pleasant due to the heat.

Fast forward to today. We are a Grand Designs dealer and I get a nice discount, SO the DW and her sister came into the dealership and we looked at a 2017 Reflection 27RL, ran the numbers and decided we didn't like it that much!!

So you all are stuck with me for the duration, besides how wood it look for a Keystone moderator to have a Grand Designs trailer. Now to do something about that worthless A/C unit on the roof, I am already working on it.

Isn't it funny how our opinions change when it's stated in the universal language of money. Glad youre here to stay as losing a tech on an rv forum is like losing a "Gordon Ramsay" on Hells Kitchen. Just wouldn't be the same. Plus, advice isn't cheap nowadays. When you can get it for free, all the better.

Glad for us it worked out that way. Sorry for you you're stuck with crappy AC. I hope you can figure something out that works.

Thanks for the votes of confidence. Current AC is 13.5K and I'm going to change to a 15K. Trailer is 30A and will support the change and its way cheaper than replacing the whole trailer. Thank goodness for employee discounts.

It's a shame you don't know a good tech that could help with the install....

Chuckster - I think it was Bob Landry - can't say for sure (CRS disease) - posted on here about adding a bedroom a/c. He powered it by running a dedicated 20A line and plug so he can connect it to the 20A on the pedestal enabling him to run both a/c units. Just an FYI

I do remember that thread. Since I have an expensive maxx air fan in the bedroom vent, I'm probably not going to add a second A/C. If 15K doesn't do the trick then we may look into it.

I doubt if anyone would complain about you not having a Keystone product while being a participant on a Keystone forum. Tech is tech and experience is experience for the benefit of the forum members.

"Recycling" the current TV or trailer is a good thing. New and complicated, blingy, doo-dads on the current crop of vehicles can be cool, but they are expensive and sometimes cause issues.

My contractor buddy hates the crop of accessorized vehicles available today. Don't get him started on aluminum beds. He says the older technology was simpler, more reliable and less expensive to maintain. I've heard too much to dispute his opinion on that, especially with the newer Dodge's. The Fix It Again Tony connection might have been a bad decision. At least cab removal isn't a Chrysler recommended maintenance procedure...

Glad you're still here...

Thank you very much. I enjoy this forum and everyone's input, that's what makes this place so nice.

Since I have a Coleman A/C unit and thermostat, easiest will be just swapping out the roof unit. I like the Dometic but not sure if I would have to modify wiring and such. KISS applies here.

It'll be interested to hear how you feel about GD vs Keystone long term. Course, they've been bought by Winny, so things may change over there. Glad you're here either way.

What would we do without your valuable input? The GD's are a nice units but glad you are staying with Keystone and hope that you can solve the a/c issue. Thanks for all you do for everything you do for the forum.

Good to hear that you didn't stray One question though; why haven't you done anything about it till thinking about it now? I think that I'd go nuts if I couldn't keep my trailer 12 to 15 degrees cooler than the outside temp.
Aso will the new one be quieter? Noisy AC's are another thing that drives me nuts!

Trading my Cougar Monday. An almost new 13.5 in the bedroom and 18 month old 15 in the LR. They give me zero for having 2. If you were closer you could have either one.

CaptnJohn I appreciate the offer. Steve, we haven't really used this trailer as much as we promised when we bought it. I started working at the dealership and I have worked on autos for 40+ yrs "on the side". Very little camping during camping season, this year was just a quick 4 day get away. Going to Oregon in August for the eclipse and the thought of showing up in a NEW rig...well you know.

Anyway, reality smacked us in the face, No it didn't hurt because I was sort of expecting it, just didn't think the hand slapping me was going to be that hard. Don't know if a new A/C will be quieter, but I'm sure it will be cooler and that's what matters to us and our Siamese cat.

I have started to process to change out the AC unit and will report what I find when I do finally change it out.
