I powder coated my hub covers on my Jayco prismatic black. They sparkled as I drove.

Don't think I'll do it to my current rig.

The wheels on my bass boat are black painted wheels. They have a "plastic chrome" ring and a "plastic chrome" lug/hub cover. For the first year I had the boat I thought I had chrome rims. When I took the wheels off to repack bearings before storing it for the first year is when I realized they were plastic covers. You could probably find something similar (or even a full plastic wheel cap) for less than $25 each. I've seen full sets for sale for around $45. Here are pictures of the covers on my boat trailer. I think the manufacturer has gone to white wheels instead of the black I've got.

I put these on. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-VW-Volk...a07b6b&vxp=mtr

$27 for 4, I didn't expect much, but they just survived a 400 mile trip just fine. Much cheaper and easier than painting the steel wheels.
