In my opinion these underbellys are just put there to aid the manufacturers in running the wires. The wires pretty much just lay on that underbelly coroplast where they used to take the time to actually mount them to something. It probably does provide some form of insulation (I think they say R11) so on a nice October evening it's a help, but I bet it was adventageous for the manufacturer. Plus, they can charge us more for the covering and doing less work!
