Passport 189ML Water Heater

We just bought a used 2010 Passport Expresss 189ml and we are looking for the hot water heater bypass valve. Anyone know where it is?

How do you tell if it is open or closed?

It is right on the backside of the heater, usually accessible inside a cupboard or behind a removable panel.

To verify position, shut off the propane or 110vac so that the heater is completely off. Shut off your water pump or city water. Remove the drain plug. Water should begin to drain from the heater. Then turn on the water pump or city water briefly. If water shoots out the drain hole under pressure, that is the normal position. If the water just continues to drain without pressure, that is the bypass position.

We own a 2011 Passport 189ml; the water heater is under the bed, you may need to remove a few screws to remove the wood panel so you can access it. The bypass is on the side of the water heater.
Hope you enjoy your 189ml; we have been very happy with ours.
