Cougar xlite and stereo system
We have a 2012 xlite 26 sab and I am wondering if any one has been able to get the radio to work in theirs? It works great when the camper is not pluged into 110 power but as soon as I plug it in all I can get on the radio is a bunch of static. I think it is the converter causing the problem but keystone says not. Just wondering. Thanks for any imput

I have a 2012 Xlite 26SAB and experienced the same with the radio. The antenna is just a coiled up piece of wire behind the radio. Even stretching it out I still had noise from the converter. I could hear strong local AM stations over the noise but that's about it.
I have an old Palomar Loop Antenna for the AM broadcast band. I connected some coax to the antenna jack on the radio and set the loop antenna on the table by the window when I want to listen to the radio. That works great.
Those converters are noise generators and the 12v wiring in the trailer acts as an antenna. If you can get your antenna away from the wiring the radio will work much better.
The alternative may be to replace the converter with a better one that generates less noise.
Regards,
Alan

Do you think that they possibly put different converters in the later model ones?

It's anybody's guess but seems they must have done something different in the 2013's since there was a report of no problem from one owner.

We had a 2011 26SAB and I do not recall any radio problems on battery or shore power.

You could try a noise filter for the power supply of the radio.

Some radios (mainly pioneer especially the older ones) have a pico fuse inside that helps with noise that if connected wrong one time could blow and cause noise in the system. I do not know if all use this or which ones do but a noise isolator could help your situation.

I'm interested as well. I suspect they may have changed the type of converter. That is the source of the noise.
Getting your antenna out from behind the stereo and away from the 12v power wires will help.

Have tried a noise filter. Also someone said to run power feeds directly to the battery. Did that. Nothing seems to help!

Is your problem static just on am or fm? Or is it a noise like a whine all the time?

only on am and fm and only when I am plugged into 110. It has to be something to do with the converter but keystone says no.

Went and bought a used 110v radio at a garage sale. Gave up on solving the problem with the camper radio. Can use this one when hooked to 110 and use the camper one when there is no 110 available.

Did you try pulling the radio out and moving the antenna away from the 12v wiring to see if that was an issue?

Yes I actually ran a coax up the wall and installed the wire antenna on the top of the cabinet above the tv. Also installed a noise filter in the 12v leading to the stereo and also ran a direct line (both pos and ground) directly to the battery. Don't understand it my son has a forest river and exactly the same stereo system and his works fine.

Went and bought a $13.00 esternal radio aerial and installed it on the side of the camper. Ran wire through cabinet and into wall down to radio. Now I have both am and fm any time, any place. Works great. All the other trailer manufactures have external antenas Why not keystone?

My '13 29RES radio works great either plugged in to 110VAC or not.
Ensure your TV booster is not turned on (little button by antenna output behind the TV).

Maybe it works because your radio is at the back of the camper and the converter is more towards the front.
