On Hanging Closets

After two summers on the road, and not living full time in our Springdale TT, we have come to the conclusion that "hanging closets" are pretty much worthless for seasonal campers. SO, this fall I forgot about attempting to use them and installed shelves in all of them. The one nearest the galley got five shelves, each with a "fiddle" on the front to prevent stuff from sliding into the door. Four shelves plus the bottom of the cabinet gave plenty of room for "slide out" containers that can be used to organize cooking stuff, food stocks, pans, etc. I also added three shelves in each of the two sleeping area cabinets, again with fiddles to prevent the contents from sliding into, and opening the door. These mods are easy to make and provide much better control over storage options for folded clothing, shoes, etc. The mods are easy to do using over the counter shelving that had been cut down to size and then secured through the cabinets with long decorative screws with hidden or near invisible heads. Some cabinets have hollow walls, but this is easy to handle using plastic spacers for the screws. For seasonal campers, this is a great modification.

It's generally used as a nautical term to describe a shelf with "rails" across the front to keep objects on the shelf when the boat pitches from the waves.

On our Cougar Half ton 22rbs we removed the shelf in the closet just inside the entry door. Now clothes can hang correctly. In the useless closets along each side of the bed we bought 5 plastic bins for each side and pack them with same clothing ( socks and underwear, T-shirts in another, etc.). These two mods have worked out great!!!
