Mud Finder

We downloaded the Mud Finder mobile app and plan to do a bit of traveling next year doing some off-roading. Problem is, we need a trailer that has more fresh water capacity as we will be doing a lot of boondocking. Anyone know a line of trailers that has better options around this? We are also looking at just putting an additional bladder in the back of our truck.

Welcome to the forum. Toy haulers traditionally have larger fresh tanks or even a second one. Are you looking at a bumper pull or fifth wheel.

Do you have a trailer currently? What do you consider "more fresh water capacity? More than what ???

Need lots more capacity than a regular RV? Doing a lot of boondocking? Obviously you will be very limited given the capacities of most RVs. You could do what we used to do and tow a 250 gal. water buffalo behind us...

Mud Finder

Apologies, good questions. Should have been more complete. :-)

We currently have a Jayco Octane 273. It only has a 40 gallon FW tank. We will be doing a good bit of boondocking. Probably just one week at a time. Seven days I think would be the most.

Was hoping for a TT. Could do medium size 5r. I have a 2016 Chevy 2500. I’d have to have 5th wheel installed.

Most fifth wheel toyhaulers are going to have a pin weight that is significantly more than your 2500 can handle. Impact has three "mid size" (35'-38') travel trailer toy haulers with fresh water storage greater than 100 gallons. Most do not have gray tanks capable of hauling that much waste water out of a camping area, so you may find that a problem unless the areas you camp allow dumping gray water on the ground.

A "plus" is garage spaces in the 16'-18' range. Interiors are "Spartan" by "foo foo" standards, but appear to be 'just right for mudders". Easy to clean, lots of fresh water, sleeping areas and living areas suitable for most families once the garage is empty and not priced out of the range of most who can qualify for financing.

They may not be your "cup of tea" but they do have "lots of fresh water storage"....

Take a look at the 3118, 3216 and 3219.

I have one of these and a 12V transfer pump that I take when we head for the hills.

https://www.horsetraileraccessorysto...ddy_p_572.html

My last 5th wheel had a 50 gallon FW tank. I added a second to give me 100 gallons; 163 with the truck tank.

Some day I will add a second tank on my current rig. Just be aware; water is heavy.

don't waste your time with a bumper pull. Get a 5er. Toy haulers and the way the weight is distributed just don't work with bumper pulls!

Hmmmmmmm...I'll have to keep that in mind when I take my Impact 312 bumper pull out next time. I would prefer to have a 5th wheel but am over satisfied with this Impact. It has had no issues, is very well built, and comfortable.

FW capacity is 110 gallons and is built exactly like the Fuzions without all the foo-foo. I also have a 12 foot garage with the patio package. Would highly recommend this line of trailers. Very well built and sturdy and I have pulled mine in some very backwoods areas.

I cant speak to the Impact vapor-lite line so dont apply these comments there without doing your own due diligence.

maybe extra water loaded into the truck bed, via a water bladder. or even on top if it can handle the weight.
i have a small rv right now, and i carry about 30 extra gallons in the truck bed behind the fifth wheel but forward of the tail gate.

This is a pretty good video on boondocking tips. He talks about water at 1:05.

Ray is awesome. I love his videos. He has a video for just about anything you want to repair or upgrade on your trailer.
