Painting Filon?

I have black decals that I suppose Keystone thought would work as stone guards on the front of the 5th. Of course after a few years on the road they are damaged and are peeling off. I'm thinking about taking the decals off, masking the area off, rough it up a bit with sandpaper and just using rattle can paint on it.
Anyone ever painted filon with something like Krylon?
At first using a wrap type decal sounded good, but I think I'll be right back at the same place in a few years. Be easy to touch up black paint if needed.

The rattle can wont have any film build and you would be touching it up after every trip I would think.
A 3M red Scotch Brite pad is all you would need to prep the surface for paint, sandpaper would cut too much.

Brent, I would try Krylon's Plasticoat. It is made to expand and contract without cracking. Have used it on fiberglass. Not the front cap of a trailer just non moving things. JMO

I haven't used Plasticoat but have used Fusion. Worked great on the Bigfoot cabover fridge vent, elect outlet covers, etc.

If you want a bullet proof area go to your local Line X dealer & have them spray the area with whatever color match you want. It'll cost more than a couple rattle cans (needed every trip out), but you'll only have to do it once.

This is part of the required system that we have to use at the dealership when prepping new OEM bumpers from Toyota and a few other manufactures.

I don't think you would require any adhesion promoter because you are not dealing with a raw plastic. The Krylon Fusion would have some of this already in the formula I think.

I also like Danny's idea of the bed-liner company spraying their material.

If the area you're trying to protect is "under the front overhang" then Line-X is an excellent choice. If you're looking to "cosmetically replace the decals" on the front cap, above the pinbox, then Line-X may not look as good, although, once applied, it probably won't ever need maintenance again, even "bug-washing" will be easier. I sprayed some "bed liner" on a flatbed trailer some years ago, it was easy to apply, looked good and was extremely durable. I don't know that I'd like that "look" on the front cap of my Cougar, but on the "splash shield areas" it's a great choice.

^^I'm talking about under the front overhang. Both outside bottom corners have the black decal.
I'll shop some spray on bedliner and Fusion.

Has anyone tried something like Ziebart's Z-Shield Paint Protection film on this part of a fifth wheel?

I have the same problem on My Keystone product. My wife has suggested using some metal plate or stainless, cut to fit, to recover it. Iam still thinking about it. I havent given paint much thought because of seeing, the chiping returning. I will think about the bed treatment option but not sure if I would like the ruff texture.

You might want to talk to a LineX dealer about the new LineX Ultra coating. The applications I've seen which were done by the local LineX dealer don't have much "rough texture" at all. In fact, the fender skirts and J wrap on my Cougar have a "rougher texture" than the LineX Ultra that he showed me. It's becoming the new fad for Jeep bumpers and side panel coatings for custom paint jobs around these parts. A few years ago, people were using camouflage tape to customize their rocker panels, now they're starting to use LineX Ultra instead. It's definitely not the "black textured bed liner" type application. And, it can be custom tinted to match any color, even SOME (not all) metalflake.... Definitely not the "old black stuff" any longer.

I thought about some black .125" diamond plate as well. Not sure if I want to pay for LineX.
I should price both.

You wouldn't need anything as thick as .125.
