What a difference a day makes

Here's two photos from our front porch yesterday afternoon about 3PM and today about 9AM. From all indications, we're not yet "half way through" with this storm, so the predicted 5-8" has already fallen plus another 5-8 left to fall this afternoon, then a "lull" and still that much or more left to fall tomorrow....

SPRING ???? What's that ????

Gee Whiz, seems so late to see that much snow. I feel for you. Wish I had taken some pictures of all the beautiful azaleas in FL before we left. They were everywhere and so pretty. You could have just pulled them up and "dreamed" of spring.

Uh, that's not lake effect. It's part of a large storm system going through here on its way to John. We are supposed to end up with 12 to 18 inches here by tomorrow night.

Tom,

We "really aren't in the lake effect belts"... Those are around Petoskey and Kalkaska. We're a little further away from the Lake Michigan coast and most of it falls before the moisture gets this far inland.... This storm (mostly system snow), however..... well, it's not the "typical cold front" that we see in mid April, that's for sure !!! It's still falling, even though it was supposed to clear up by noon.... Winds are picking up, so yeah, I'm glad I'm not towing the Cougar across the bridge today !!!!!

The 6 oclock weather says the official snowfall in the past 12 hours is 17". that's on top of the 15" last weekend (which had almost melted). It's at least that deep almost everywhere and some drifts 4' and 5' around the lee side of buildings. DW and I just spent 2 hours with shovels and a 10HP snowblower, just moving the part closest to the buildings where I can't get the tractor. Prediction is for almost as much tonight and tomorrow, so.... We've already broken the record for April snowfall totals and with what's predicted, it'll be a record not to be broken for a long, LONG time.... Ain't spring fun ????

Hey TAZ.... you can stop sending it this way any time now LOL

ADDED: Whether it's "system snow", "Lake effect snow" or "Ma Nature's angry snow" It's just as heavy to shovel and definitely not fun any more..... IT"S TIME FOR SPRING AND FOR THINGS TO WARM UP !!!!!!

ADDED #2: Just listened to the Cadillac weather, they are predicting freezing rain, sleet and only 2" of snow tonight/tomorrow. I like that forecast better (as long as we don't lose power)....

John,

Just reading the latest on the storms hitting you guys. Don't sound pretty, nor fun. Stoke the fire, grab a blanket, make some hot chocolate or? and settle in for a nice, cold winter evening. We wish you well and take care. Spring is here in many places. SOMEDAY it may come to you. Until then we'll be thinking of you as you wipe down the Slingshot and Cougar (after shoveling a trail to them); envisioning green trees, a winding road, a beautiful campground.......uhh, sorry! Didn't mean to take you down that road!! Hope fair weather comes to you soon!!

Just sitting here thinking, we could be in Louisiana, in the middle of rain storms, tornadoes, floods and snakes crawling into the house, or we could be here, safe, inconvenienced and frustrated..... Hmmmm Danny, you paint a pretty picture, one that would be great. It would be so nice to be someplace warm, riding the slingshot, sitting under the awning with a cool adult beverage, chicken on the grill, the smell wafting over the entire campground. Hmmmmm that does sound wonderful....

Alas, we're "sitting in a snowbank, laughing to keep from crying"... well, figuratively, anyway.....

I got the road cleared, it only took 8 swipes to move probably 40 tons of snow, but thankfully with the blower on the tractor it didn't take too long. It cleared up around 4 or 5 this afternoon and the next wave is supposed to start around 2AM. Depending on the station, one says mostly ice, one says mostly snow. 8 or 10" of snow is an inch of ice. One is easy to push or blow, the other just is inconvenient as long as we don't have to drive on it..... Tomorrow we'll know which we get (more laughing to keep from crying)....

As my dad used to say, "this too shall pass, and next year this time, none of it will seem so terrible as it does right now"..... I hope he's right, again.....

I invite anyone who believes in global warming to come visit. We've got a couple extra snow shovels they can grab by the tiny end.....

Now the decision boils down to hot chocolate

or BEER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm thinking the headache tomorrow morning might just be worth it this time......

Sorry John I tried, but there is only so much room here. We are also out of room to put it. LOL

(I just can't cast a big enough net to contain this one)

I apologize. I'm thinking all this snow and ice is my fault, so my wife is telling me. I changed the oil on the snow blower last weekend and got it all tucked in for the summer as well as storing my shovels in the attic above the garage. On the upsdide (if there is one) the lawn tractor and mower are all set to go. Here in Ontario we do not have as much as you do John, but we have about 2 inches of frozen ice pellets on the ground.

TAZ,

Thanks for trying, that's about all anybody can ask....

As for places to put the accumulation, all of those 5' drifts we moved yesterday must not have liked where we put them. This morning, with the wind, they are "migrating" back to where they were. The back deck that I cleared of snow is, again, 4' deep and rising......

Green Bay with 18-30" ???? HOLY SNOWMOBILE, BATMAN !!!!!

zuley,
Sometimes I think the ice is worse than snow. Certainly harder to shovel and we won't even talk about trying to drive on it !!!! Stay safe !!!

On the upside to being stuck inside I spent the morning cleaning up my little que that hangs off the back of our camper. It's one of those "Ausie" ques that came with the camper 5 years ago. My wife calls it my obsession whereas I call it my passion trying to keep the thing operable. It'll be good for one more year.

Thanks for acknowledging my attempt at being a (good neighbor ) John.
Now if we could just get sourdough to keep that gulf moisture down there where it belongs we wouldn't be having this conversation
