Boy, I don’t have a fancy excuse or reason for mine. Just my 1st initial and 1st 3 of my last. Through the years folks have called me “ bos” but that didn’t work for the forum.

I have always had bright red hair and when I was a kid more often then not I had a carrot in my mouth. Not sure why I liked carrots so much, so my nickname became carrottop. Well I am old now and my hair has mostly gone brown and I don't care for carrots much anymore. But the nickname stuck.

Mine came from waaayyy back in college. First year of college, DH (then just a friend) said I needed email. Having only used a typewriter and word processor until then, I asked why? I was informed because computers were fun and they were going to be necessary in everyday life. So, he signed me up for email. Asked me what username I wanted - I had no clue. He knew I loved reading any type of vampire book, so “vampress” was given to me for our campus email system. Then, it became vampress_me for other emails since vampress was taken for the first off-campus email I had. Ever since I graduated college and bought my Mustang as a graduation present to myself, it has always had some variation of vampress on the license plate, depending on what state we lived in and how many letters you could have on the plate. Although with Wyoming only allowing 4 letters, I sometimes wonder what they thought of someone wanting a license plate with VAMP on it.... But I still have those old plates in the collection!

This is a great thread topic....I'm enjoying learning about you guys and gals.

So, anyone want to hear the REAL story of the world famous....."xrated"? Of course you do!.....so here goes.......BTW, I may have exaggerated the world famous part just a bit!

Back in my younger days (2001 to be exact), I was looking for a different motorcycle and had just sold the one that I had previously owned. I started reading several of the motorcycle publications of that time period and my eye caught a couple of articles about the fairly new (at that time) Honda CBR1100XX sportbike.....a.k.a. The Blackbird. I decided that was the one I was going to buy, it was the fastest production motorcycle made at the time it came out in 1997 and was of course somewhat named after the legendary SR71 Blackbird, a military high speed spy plane.

So after some searching, I found a nice one fairly close to where I live and bought it the same day that my Dr. released me to go back to work after going through two Carpal Tunnel surgeries. After getting the bike, I started searching on the interwebs for a XX Blackbird forum that I could join and be a part of like owners for this fantastic motorcycle. Well, I found the forum and decided to join it and as my choice of forum names I chose XXrated! When I tried that name I found out it was already taken...so I did the obvious thing, I entered xrated and it stuck. So in 2001 I joined my very first forum and my user name was xrated.....which of course no one thought anything about in a negative way because we were all BlackbirdXX owners on there. One thing led to another and I joined some other forums (motorcycle related of course) and I used xrated on them also. I also joined some gun forums and used xrated there too. So fast forward to late 2016 when I bought my very first camping style trailer and started joining forums.....yep, xrated again. It's kind of cool when you are on a forum and someone PMs you and asks, hey, are you xrated over on the such and such forum? Yep, that's me there too. So I also joined another RV forum to try and enrich my knowledge base, as camping trailers were a giant learning curve for me. I won't mention any names, but after I joined one of them, about a month after I joined I got a PM from one of the forum admins and they had suspended my acct and told me to contact them if I wanted to continue on that forum. Well of course I do, that's why I signed up in the first place. I was told that xrated was NOT an appropriate screen name on their site and that I would have to select something else if I wanted to continue. So I PMed the Admin back and told them the same story that I've just told here about how and where I got that name and that it's pretty much the only one I use on multiple forums.....motorcycle, guns, camping, etc. I promised them that it had absolutely nothing to do with anything that dirty or "XRATED" and that I was actually a forum Super Moderator on one forum and an Admin on another (motorcycles of course). They sent me a PM back and told me that my user name would be restored back to xrated, but they would be keeping an eye on me. So, that's the story on my user name and I've had it for so long that there are lots of folks that know me across different forums....mostly motorcycle related.

Mostly from work. HEY! that compressor is about to shake off its foundation. What are we gonna do?? Call the Gearheads!!
Hey that big electric motor is sounding weird! Call the gearhead! Nope, it ain't my dang electric motor, call the sparky's.
And some car/racing enthusiasts are called gearheads.
And some people that collect "stuff" associated with their hobbies are called....yeah, gearheads.

Nothing fancy here, I've owned at least 1 Mustang at a time since I was 17 when I bought a '65 coupe for $650, DW and I dated in it and took it on our honeymoon. In the 90's my son and I restomodded it for his first car and he still has it. Currently own 3 Mustangs, a 2001 Bullitt, a 2009 Roush 427R and a '68 coupe which is (very) slowly being restored for the DW. And I'm getting old!

XRanchflunky:
I have had a variety of nicknames over the years. Most were fire service related, but when I retired in 2004, my DW had a directors chair made up with the title of "Chief Ranchflunky". We owned and ran a 200 horse equestrian center so I had plenty to do in those years. Recently, we are in the process of selling the business and half the property, hence "XRanchflunky". Thanks everyone for sharing, a fun read.

Nothing mysterious here. Last name preceded by first letter of given name. 948 is the union local from which I retired.

I have used a unique user name on each forum for privacy reasons. When I join a forum I use whatever works. This one is pretty much thoughtless.

Mine is me A Retired old Police officer. After 33 years with all but eight of it as a captain in traffic, patrol and investigations. The job found me, I was one of those kids in college that just could not find my nich. After changing my major 3 times in two years a friend; I had met, told me to just go work for his dad. His dad was A County Sheriff. The last 8 years there I was an investigator but it got to where I was in court all the time and I wanted back on the road. Went to work at a city where the last 22 years I was a captain over patrol, traffic and finally back to investigations. It was interesting, I got to travel a lot to different classes. Met some great people and some not so good. I retired before I was 58 after losing my son in a car accident. Tried to go back for a few years to help raise a new chief the city had hired but it was not the same so I retired.

You've likely heard of a police phrase known as a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) or similarly a BOL (Be On the Lookout) or APB (All Points Bulletin).

Having worked in law enforcement since 1986, Ive adopted BOLO4U as my username in many ways.

Also nothing mysterious here. Someone once jokingly referred to me as Dean Martin’s character MattHelm. When I needed to create a gmail account and come up with a username, I used it and 21 was the first available username. From there it stuck.

On May first, of 2002, I ordered a 2003 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, it was a black convertible, with a black top and interior.

After that I joined an SVT related forum and needed a user name... B-O-B'03 came to be.

I use the name for every forum I join now.

I still have the car and after almost 17 years it still brings a huge smile to my face, every time I start it up.

When I die, my kids can fight over it.

Mine.....well I had friends back in the day who used to like giving unique nicknames. Michel is my first name and since 'Mike' is sort of generic and boring, they started calling me Mik (sounds like Mick)
My second car was a Trans Am, a 1986. Still got it. Hence 86ta part.
So the first forum I joined was Thirdgen.org for the Trans Am. And that's how I came up and started my nickname.
