Lippert model 1817941 power jack cuts out
The above-identified power jack has started to randomly stop working on both retract and extend; after the motor cuts out, I press the retract/extend switch and the motor does not turn back on. After a few minutes it starts working again.
What would cause this? I see nothing in the manual about thermal protection, which is my first thought, although I don't know why it would have a problem now as the trailer is basically unloaded; just moving it around the yard.
Thanks.

I dont have any experience with this jack but just a note from experience with lippert electric gear on my last fifth wheel. similar problem with intermittent op on both front and back jack motors. I removed and tore down the electric motors and found the front motor brush spring was improperly installed and had reached the limit of its half size tension, reset the spring all was well....the rear motor, under similar circumstances was torn down to find that the sealant on the motor had allowed water to collect at the bottom of the motor housing exactly where the brush spring is situated and rusted the spring and effectively negated its tension. replaced spring and re sealed, not prob since.
Just puttin it out there...I'd do some power tracing b4 I tear motor down..good luck

No Rearview
Thanks for that feedback. I should have mentioned it does have power at all times; the little light on the jack does work even when the motor doesn't.
Before I tear it down I'll call the dealer when we return home as it is still under warranty; perhaps I'll get a whole new unit as it doesn't seem cost-effective to have their guys troubleshoot it at the rate they're paid.

We had problems with our original Lippert tongue jack. Turns out ours filled with water when it rained and it eventually shorted out the motor. I emailed them about it and they replaced the jack even though it was out of warranty. Now we have a cover we put on it to keep out the rain.

I wrote Lippert support on the web site; still no response. Where do you go to find out about recalls?
Thanks.

I’m not sure. I just get a repair order with a line that says replace. I don’t recall the recall number sorry.

Then your model may not have been recalled.... Have you contacted Lippert at the phone number or email address provided in that recall document? That's the "direct line" to the Lippert recall management section. If anyone could provide you the up to date on recall information about your jack, they would be the ones "in the know".....

I will try that approach tomorrow. I previously sent an email to their support through their website contact page, but as yet no response (even though it said allow 2 days! I wrote them well before I posted my question here, and still no response through that route).
Thanks again.
Ken

You might get better response by actually calling Lippert. Just be nice so you don’t tick off the person on the phone.

Lippert's telephone tech support has been very responsive to all my calls. While I don't use the service often, every time I've needed an answer, they've either had the information I needed or have called me back (or emailed me the answer) within 24 hours.

I agree, and probably 95% of the staff are extremely knowledgeable.

There are expensive (about $15-20) covers for jacks. I've found that a 3 liter coke bottle with the "funnel end" cut off works much better and doesn't cost anything (except in Michigan, it's 10 cents).... Either a $1 pail from Dollar Tree or a coke bottle will prevent more than half the water damage to electric tongue jacks.....
