Sturgis 2020
80th anniversary Sturgis It’s ago as of June 16. I have had reservations in since October 2019 and for me it’s more about the ridging And looking at motorcycles then partying and listening to Ozzy Osbourne at the Buffalo Chip. This year the Shade Valley has not announced the entertainment. What I’m reading Sturgis will Have fewer people because of the travel bands. Nobody holds the patent on the Sturgis rally they could not stop It . Shade Valley Rv Park in the eye candy saloon Had been advertising a privet rally along with all the other RV parks around Sturgis.

Good to hear. DW and I were there in 2009 on our cross country trip. Lots of bad a$$ bikes with crazy paint jobs.

It’s been a very good year for Sturgis 2020 the weather and riding has been excellent so far . The police are busy passing out tickets and doing their job. The only Business That didn’t open was the Harley Davison Big tent exhibit from Milwaukee.

I heard on the news that folks were not wearing masks or social distancing so an uptick in Covid cases can be expected.

Saw lots of videos on uTube stating 250k in attendance, bars & other venues with packed houses & not a mask in sight. So here we go with another several months of increased positives for whatever that's worth.

I use to "Ride", so I know what it takes. And I know people who "Ride" are just a very special class of people! Just the fact "riders" are outside, exposed to the elements, and love what they do, well... in my opinion, they are a healthier class of people than the average couch potato who's only goal in life is to make it from the couch to the refrigerator and back again without having a stroke!
250 THOUSAND bikers descending in one area! Now! Wouldn't it be marvelous if not a single case of Covid would be reported when this is all over!
Too many nay-sayers on these forums. If you don't want to go to the event, then don't. Meanwhile, let those who do want to go, go.

Don't believe anyone told one of the Sturgis rally folks not to go. Just dumb idea to not social distance and wear the mask when Covid-19 is running rampant. Go if you like. I was a biker at one time and was a patched club member so please don't tell me bikers are some special healthy class of people. I have seen otherwise due to the lifestyle. Rallys are definitely not my lifestyle these days but do understand that some enjoy them so go and enjoy if you wish, no one stopping you.

SIL & her husband are there now. He’s 70, bypass surgery twice. Diabetic, lungs messed up from agent orange that also gave him a brain tumor. Far from a “picture of health”.
That said it’s their decision to do want they want to their bodies. So I chose not to be around them. If they don’t care about their health they certainly don’t care about mine so it’s up to me to look out for myself.

I suspect reality lies somewhere in the middle of these opinions. Having been to the Sturgis experience many times, we had no urge to go this year. However, at 72 I have no urge to stay home, living a false safety and watch cable TV. We still ride, almost every day for a few miles, eat in ‘bar/grilles’ and generally stay masked any time we’re in retail establishments. My mother (90) lives the last of her life in a very nice apt for the elderly, is not allowed to visit in other’s apartments, no one allowed in, and can only go with Brenda and I to the doctor or to eat at a drive-in. Is this how we need to spend the next months/years? I know the answer is different for everyone, but we simply can’t shut down the entire country or “the meek shall inherit the earth.” Well, let ‘em have it! Let’s ride!

I gave up my last bike last year as my balance isn't what it should be and my wife and I ride our 2006 Goldwing trike whenever time allows. I still have a business and the Covid has seen my business get real busy this year; probably biggest since I started 14 years ago after retiring for the 2nd time. Covid and ethanol are my friends. We live in a pretty isolated area and don't really see people now that church has gone to online service. Wife buys groceries at Wallys or HEB and they put them in her trunk. I guess we are both at risk due to age and other conditions. Everybody can do as they like. My youngest kiddo is a manager in a credit union and has dozens of her employees come down with the Covid so we don't spend much time with her. She lives/works in San Antonio.

Our son and has wife got it. He said that all but one in this his office got it, and he brought it home. Those that do not respect this virus have a high chance of getting infected and infected those around them. A certain percentage of those that get infected will have major issues or die. Some will have long term issues for the rest of their lives(short or long).

He said she said the numbers are Grossly inflated. And everybody’s opinion on this crap tumped up virus is worth, less then my freedom. New Mexico is destroying all the veterans organizations for some liberal agenda called socialism. I’m not seeing my mother in eight months she is 94 years old quality of life is better then not having a life .

Are the numbers grossly inflated? Hell yes!
COVID 19 is getting undue credit for a lot of illnesses & deaths, but you nor I can prove that!
But to blame a party on either side of the aisle is ridiculous! If it makes you feel better, go ahead. If you need to blame, try the news media, social media for overly inflating EVERYTHING they report every hour!!!!
COVID 19 is worldwide, read how a good many of the other countries are limiting their populations, you'll be DAMN glad you're here. Those rough tough super fit bikers wouldn't have been able to gather like that anywhere but in the good ole USA.
You can't possibly know how little I care how many people showed up in Sturgis or whether they social distanced, wore mask, or if they ever washed their hands, but when the numbers keep going up by their lack of concern forcing the rest of us to continue to social distance, wearing mask everywhere & washing the hide off our hands then I do care what those bikers, or any other group, do at gatherings.
If everyone would follow the recommendations, regardless however we feel about them, the sooner we all could get back to whatever normal will be after this "pandemic" ends.
Sorry! I'll step off my soapbox now!

Folks again this is straying into a political discussion and cannot continue. Thread will be closed if not brought back on track and relevant to RVing and not political rhetoric.

That it did I removed the Capital T on my original Post left and on the quote. I was surprised when I started reading about mask and social distancing and the post had nothing to do with that. It was about Harley Davison not having the money to spend an Public relation for a huge event this year.

On a different point.
I was towing eastbound on I 90 towards Sioux Falls SD on the 6th,the first day of the rally. The number of and different tow combinations headed west (towards Sturgis) was staggering. Anything and everything was on the road.
I did note a lot of large triple axle toy haulers being towed by SRW axle trucks.
The weight police could have filled their quotas and ran out of ticket books in a short time I'm sure.
There were many RVs but it really didn't look like there was enough for all the bikes headed that way. Not sure where all those folks sleep. I guess any dirt will work for those willing.

Hold 'em down Laredo!!! Let me gather the rest of the posse and get on down/over/up there!! I'm still short on writing tickets and have 3-4 books left! Maybe we can use 'em up there~
DB didn't go this year but from the pics it looks like a lot of folks.

Laredo, if you look into the figures that are posted you will find an article in the Rapid City Journal back in I believe 2014 explaining all the different info used to count total visitors. We were part of the experience in the 75th anniversary where there were a record 750,000+ visitors and it wasn't all that busier then usual. The count is for total visitors (not motorcycles, but visitors) and remember the vast majority are only there for a few days. I might add, don't base your ideas of the rally around the TV shows. Sort of like reality TV some truth and some fantasy! But there is probably no riding anywhere in the country with the sites, highways and activities as the Rapid City area.

Laconia is just around the corner and it might be #2 after Sturgis as far as attendance. The governor there has already started pumping out rules. Crazy times we live in. Sounds like more social distancing and masks than in Sturgis.
