Water pump backflow preventer

My water pump will cycle about every 2 seconds. Also when hooked to city water it will fill and overflow my water tank! Should I just put another external backflow valve in or pull the pump and replace?

I looked at the crude drawing I made of the setup in the 238ML I had. The pump the only thing that isolates the FW tank from the city water feed unless there is another backflow in line that has failed. I think the pump needs to be changed.

This isn't a backflow issue, but is city water filling the fresh tank through the pump, and is not a health or safety issue. We had a failed check valve in our pump a couple years ago, which was filling the fresh tank. Not being where I could purchase a new pump, I went to the local hardware store and purchased a check valve along with a couple sharkbite adapters. I cut into the PEX line ahead of the pump and installed the check valve, which solved the problem. I later replaced the pump due to other issues. In the photo, the check valve is just left of center in the lower part of the picture.
