Towing a 5th Wheel with a Flatbed

I have a F450 Ford CC with a 9 foot Flatbed. I also have a 2010 Fuzion 40 foot 5th wheel. I have not pulled with this combo yet. My question does any one here tow a 5th wheel with a truck that has a 9 foot flatbed. What hitch do you use and do you have enough clearance between the truck bed and front of the trailer. I will be home after Christmas and want to get every thing figured out so I can get rigged out and be in Quartzite AZ the 2nd week of January. Thanks for any input with your experience.

Does it already have a gooseneck ball?
Is it flat/flat?
I would measure from the bed to the ground, and then from the ground to your pinbox plate. Then check hitches online for specs.
If it has a gooseneck ball already, I would consider an Andersen Ultimate hitch. They make a shorter one for flat beds.

Towing a 5th Wheel with a Flatbed

The only problem I see is the placement of the hitch. Since the hitch point should be over the rear axle or just forward of it, having a 9 foot bed puts it 6” further than “normal”.
I don’t know the ratings but a Reese “sidewinder” extends the kingpin, that may be one option.

Take a look at the B&W flatbed 5th wheel hitch.
That is what it is designed for.

Years ago with an 11ft flat bed regular cab dually I did. Since the bed was also 8ft wide I had to take the squared rear corners into consideration so they wouldn’t hit in a turn. I ended up having to mount the 5th wheel behind the axle approx 15 inches. I mounted under bed tool boxes on either side ahead of the rear axle so ultimately the front axle had more weight on it with the 5th hooked up then it did with just the empty flatbed with no toolboxes and 5th unhooked. I noticed no adverse effects while towing even in winter on snow covered roads other then needing towed when snow exceeded approx 6 inches.

The clearance between flatbed and trailer vertically is considerably greater then pickup bed rails and trailer.
